Princess Alexandra's Wedding: HRH Princess Alexandra of Kent

Princess Alexandra was such a classic bride, wasn't she? Her veil is probably my favorite part of the whole ensemble -- well, that is, except for the tiara!

This is what we'll call the Kent City of London Fringe Tiara, the wedding tiara used by the women in the Kent branch of the Windsor family. It was given to Alexandra's mother, Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark, by the City of London when she married Prince George, Duke of Kent in 1934. Since then, almost all of the Kent women have worn it at their weddings; it's now owned by Prince and Princess Michael of Kent.
It's a great fringe -- full, sparkly, and elegant. Occasionally Princess Michael wears this tiara topped with a diamond necklace -- see here -- but I like it best worn in this more traditional way. Lovely!

She's so pretty, isn't she? And she's aged so gracefully! The tiara is very pretty, and I hope that some of the other Kents will wear it on their wedding day, like Lady Gabriella if she ever gets married (I"m sure she is, sh'es such a stunner).
How neat! I enjoyed learning about her. I did not know there was a Princess Alexandra Kent! I feel royal now
Thanks for posting! -Alexandra Kent
She was a v beautiful bride was Alex. The dress and veil were unusual in that they are made of the same lace, so the veil is almost part of the dress. Very simple and elegant, but it does look rather weighty to lug about all that lace...
The tiara is fab. Suits her very well - I think M-C has it now.
That's a proper sparkler!
I do love a sparkly tiara.
hmm, interesting to know she started the arrive in a car, etc., thing.
not loving the dress. lace on lace, and the cut is not particularly flattering. alexandra usually drsses her figure better than this.
tiara - nice, and the best part of the outfit. i prefer it with the extra topper - no surprise, given my love of sparkle.
She did indeed look beautiful, and the tiara is stunning. She was the spit of her mother back then, too. Not too keen on the heavy veil though.
I love the tiara and I love how the veil matches the dress. But I don't know if I love that veil with that tiara. For me they don't look like they go together.
I'm truly not keen on Alexandra's wedding outfit. The total ensemble appears totally "flat". Perhaps it's the fabric I'm not crazy about as the dress itself has a classic look for the time. I was trying to see if her hair- do was the old "beehive" style! One cant' really tell..
Yet, these photos show just how lovely she was.
I have to say I do wish Marie Chantal had looked at this when deciding on her lace veil/dress combo, because it looks infinitely better when they match.
I wasn't entirely sure about this the first time I saw it but I think it's growing on me - the simple shape is a classic look. It's dated pretty well.
She looks lovely, and I never realized just how much she did look like her mother. Must say, this fringe works far better as a bridal tiara then QEII's fringe tiara.
There's a beautiful view of this tiara in Geoffrey Munn's Tiara book and it is a stunning one. Unlike most fringe tiaras, this one can not be converted to a necklace. Princess Alexandra is elegant isn't she? I think she got that from her mother.
I think she looks so classically stunning in this
