Greek Pre-Wedding Ball: HM The Queen of Denmark

We've talked a lot about this lady and her tiaras on the blog, so it's only fitting we get to finally meet her at last: Queen Ingrid of Denmark, mother of our beloved Queen Daisy and grandmother-in-law to the lovely Crown Princess Mary.  She's at the top of this picture, standing beside her (semi-visible) husband, King Frederik IX.

Fittingly, Ingrid is wearing the tiara we call here, in honor of its association with her, Ingrid's Ruby Parure TiaraIngrid bequeathed it to her grandson, Crown Prince Frederik, whose wife, Mary, now wears it.  The tiara is originally a Swedish piece, but it didn't come to Denmark with the Swedish-born Ingrid; instead, it was given by Queen Joséphine of Sweden to her granddaughter, Princess Lovisa, who married King Frederik VIII of Denmark.  Lovisa's son, King Christian X, inherited the sparkler, and gave it as a wedding present to his new daughter-in-law, Ingrid.  Not a bad gift!

Ooh I see where Benedikte gets her somewhat hawkish look from! She's a very handsome lady indeed - nice tradition for the daughter in law to get the rubies.

Ingrid was certainly a looker in her time. Damn I wish my inlaws had had rubies (or any other type of sparkler) to give me to when we were married. I guess I'll have to settle for the very nice cutlery set instead.

You're right - Benedikte does get her imperiouis withering glance from her mother doesn't she. Blimey, I bet if you had those two cast a discouraging eye at you you could turn to stone!

There's a wonderful picture of Ingrid at her own wedding, just outside the church waving her bouquet in the air. She was greatly loved by the Danes, and seemed a most down to earth woman.

No offence Mary, but Queen Ingrid just owned those rubies! No one looked as good as she did in them.

I will always love those rubies. They're so damn perfect. And I'd never noticed that Benedikte had such a look of her mother. It's a very certain breed of royalty to have such an imperious look. Princess Anne's very much in that category too.

She was a very classy royal lady. The tiara got it's present look through her. When she got it it was a simple wreath butn in the 1940*s Ingrid let it reset and 2 big brooches of the parure where included in the tiara to gave it a fuller look.

Goodness I wouldn't have wanted to do anything bad in front of Ingrid here...

I love this tiara, but truthfully I sort of prefer it on Mary with her gorgeous brown hair! But Ingrid still looks amazing.
