Another royal wedding, another dearly-departed royal for the blog: Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte, whose title changed in the interim between Prince Philippe's royal wedding and Crown Prince Haakon's big day. J-C's husband, Grand Duke Jean, abdicated on October 7, 2000, giving over power to their son, Henri.
So now, rather than being The Grand Duchess, she's just Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte on this occasion. Not really a bad switch, in the grand scheme of things. You get to keep your fancy title, all of your jewelry, and probably the castle, too, and instead of cutting endless ribbons and shaking endless hands, you get to sit poolside and drink frozen margaritas, just popping out in a tiara for the occasional royal wedding. (I'm imagining that's the case, anyway. If so, forget being a royal -- I want to be a retired royal!)
J-C here is wearing the same tiara she wore to her own royal wedding way back in 1953. It's called Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte's Diamond Scroll Tiara, and it was a gift from the Société Générale bank. The whole thing actually comes apart into different pieces, including a brooch and a diamond ring that measures a whopping eight carats. Splendid!

The British tiara on display at CP Haakon's wedding is the Wessex Wedding Tiara, a tiara worn first by Sophie Wessex on her wedding day, but made of antique elements.
Royal watchers have determined that this particular sparkler is composed of four anthemions (also called "palmettes" -- like the little sections of palmette tiaras) that were once a part of Queen Victoria's Regal Circlet diadem. If you look closely, you can see the four pieces -- one on each side, and two sort of stacked together in the middle.
I quite like this tiara, but what I really love is this solution to the problem of finding tiaras for new, more minor members of royal families. You don't want to give them the big, heirloom pieces -- because they'll eventually probably leave the family that way -- but this way, you can use sections of older jewels that probably aren't suitable for modern wear but have great historical provenance. Bravo on this one, Brits!

Ahhh ... perfection! Some may have questioned Mette-Marit's suitability as a royal spouse, but she looked every inch the Nordic princess at her wedding. And the Diamond Daisy Tiara complemented the look perfectly. Magnificent!

Queen Sonja brought the big guns to her baby's wedding: Empress Joséphine’s Emerald Tiara and the rest of the matching emerald parure. I've got to say, though, I think the strange green shade of the dress looks a little odd with the emeralds. What do the rest of you think?

The woman wearing this very interesting tiara is Countess Ruth of Rosenborg, wife of Count Flemming of Rosenborg (who, sadly, died not long after this wedding in 2002), who was the son of Prince Axel of Denmark and Princess Margaretha of Sweden. Princess Margaretha was the daughter of Prince Carl of Sweden and Princess Ingeborg of Denmark, and her siblings included Queen Astrid of the Belgians (mother of the current King of the Belgians) and Crown Princess Märtha of Norway (mother of the current King of Norway).
Ingeborg left this tiara, Princess Ingeborg's Star Tiara, to her daughter, Princess Margaretha, from whom Countess Ruth received the piece. The turquoise-and-diamond star tiara was a wedding gift to Ingeborg from Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Since this wedding, Countess Ruth has given the tiara to her daughter-in-law, Countess Jutta of Rosenborg, who likely still has it in her possession.

Princess Märtha Louise looked gorgeous at her little brother's wedding -- her dress and overall look was still unusual enough that it looked like her, but she was really chic and lovely at the same time.
This haircut especially looked great on her, and it worked really well with her tiara -- the King Olav's Gift Tiara, so named because it was a present from her grandfather, King Olav V, on her eighteenth birthday.
I really like this one -- the design of the central section is so different -- but I'm curious to hear what all of the rest of you think about it. And excellent gift, or one that should have been left at the jeweller's?

Now here's a serious sparkler -- Victoria's wearing the Baden Fringe Tiara, one of my very favorite fringe tiaras of all. It's just so full and shiny -- gorgeous!
PS -- Check out baby Carl Philip in the background. Who knew then that he'd turn into such a hunk of man?

Queen Silvia brought out one of the larger tiaras owned by the Swedes for the wedding in Norway -- this is Queen Sophie’s Nine-Prong Diamond Tiara. It's quite something, but -- I don't know -- I have to admit that wearing it would make me a bit nervous. I'd be afraid that I'd bend over and accidentally poke someone's eye out!

How gorgeous does Princess Madeleine look here in the Modern Fringe Tiara? This girl just has tiara hair beyond compare. I really love the diamond bow brooch she's using to pin on her sash, too.
(Also, sigh. I'm so glad she got herself away from that cheating jerk Jonas, but I'm still so bummed we're not going to see her wearing a wedding tiara soon!)

It's really tough to see which tiaras the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg sisters are wearing to the Norwegian royal wedding in this picture, but I'm pretty sure we've got Nathalie (in the orange) in Benedikte's Floral Birthday Tiara, and Alexandra (in the pink) in the Sayn-Wittegenstein-Berleberg Fringe Tiara.
(Also, this is the first time the elder SWB daughter, Alexandra, has shown up on the blog! How's it going, Your Serene Highness?)
