The Crown Prince of Norway's Wedding: HRH Princess Sibilla

Here's a new princess for us!  This is Princess Sibilla of Luxembourg, who is married to Grand Duke Henri's brother, Prince Guillaume (that's him on the right).  Sibilla is super gorgeous, and noble to boot: she's descended from Italian, German, Spanish, and Dutch royalty.  Not too shabby!

Her tiara here is a Diamond Art Deco Tiara.  Sibilla seems to be the only person who wears it these days, though I believe that it's a Luxembourg family piece rather than something Sibilla inherited from her family.  Anyone know any more about this gorgeous sparkler?

that's not a Norwegian order Sibilla is wearing there though, is it? kind of looks like a Swedish Seraphim but not (wrong sash)

Ooh new Princess!! Love this tiara, she looks amazing.

  3. Ursula says on :

The tiara is splendid, her hair is beautifully made up and doesn't overwhelm the tiara (or vice-versa), the necklace is perfect and the dress is just gorgeous. Even the fact that she probably doesn't have enough bust to fit the dress properly is a very minor imperfection.

Wow, she is a looker. She looks stunning, I love the tiara, and the dress is gorgeous.

Now, this is how you wear a tiara when you want to keep your hair down. Excellent!

The tiara belongs to Sibilla. Not only does she have royal and noble ancestry but her father was m-e-g-a rich. The diamond/ruby necklace is also her property (she wears it it almost every formal event she attends). Her father also gave many beautiful (read expensive) pieces to Josephine-Charlotte.

She is wearing the Ordre du Mérite Civil et Militaire d'Adolphe de Nassau. It is the second highest order of The Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. All of the prince/ss are born members of the order but cannot wear the insignia until after their 18th birthday. By my reckoning of the wording of the by-laws Sibilla became a member the moment she became a Princess of the house because title and not parentage (other orders only children of the Sovereign are born into) is the only criteria. The husband's of Princesses are also generally awarded this order. I do not believe Sibilla has any other orders to wear.

Luxarazzi, my thanks for the information on the order. Does your knowledge extend over further orders or only Luxembourg? I might want to ask about others at a latter date (Victoria's wedding, for one).

  8. Luxarazzi says on :

It extends to other nations. Luxembourg is my passion but it wasn't always so. I've been an eager student of royalty for more than 15 years. I've only become singularly absorbed in Luxembourg recently.

  9. Eliza says on :

Not to mention she's descended from Queen Victoria through her mother, Olimpia Torlonia. Olimpia's grandmother was Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenburg, who was Queen Vic's granddaughter! She would have been in line to the British throne had there not be the anti-Catholic law.

  10. Grace says on :

If she's descended from Victoria of Battenberg that makes her...Prince Philip's cousin? I think? His mother, Princess Andrew of Greece, was Victoria's daughter.

  11. Grace says on :

Scratch that--Philip's first cousin once removed, I believe.
