The Crown Prince of Norway's Wedding: Miss Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti

Check it out, everybody -- it's Máxima's very first Tiara Alert!  Back in 2001, she was just Miss Máxima Zorreguieta Cerruti, but in a few months, she would marry Prince Willem-Alexander and become a Dutch princess.

Here Máxima showed us the first example of what would become her tiara M.O. -- she's taking pieces from the Dutch collection and wearing them in interesting and new ways.  This tiara is actually the base of the family's Antique Pearl Tiara.  In its full form, this tiara has seven absolutely massive pearls atop its spikes.

The tiara comes by its "antique pearl" name honestly.  While the tiara itself was made around the turn of the last century for Queen Beatrix's grandmother, Queen Wilhelmina, the pearls themselves date from the 1600s.  The full tiara might have been a bit extravagant to be worn by a royal fiancée, but the ever-resourceful tiara experimenter Máx has, of course, worn the complete piece several times since.

She looks amazing, and the tiara is lovely - how lucky are these girls?!?!?! Very clever just to wear the base.

isn't it very unusual for a fiancee to wear a tiara?

anyway, i remember seeing maxima in this outfit and loving it! it looked so stylish, well-cut, flattering and classy, highlighted by a few gorgeous pieces of jewelry. i thought the dress and shawl looked so beautiful and stylish in such a simple way, and in sharp contrast to the sometimes fussy and shiny outfits of the other royals.

and of course her lovely smile completed the outfit!

i actually like the tiara worn this way rather than with the huge pearl spikes

You have to give her credit; she really knows how to pull it off. The gown and tiara are simple but just smashing when you seem them on. Kudos to her.

I like this worn as just the base, and really nice for a fiancee rather than the full on royal bling! Seems like an eternity ago that Max was a royal in training! You can tell she is playing it safe too - her outfits are not normally as conservative as this one - but she looks very lovely.

    Sometimes less is indeed more.
