Danish Pre-Wedding Gala Dinner: HM Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

The very first time I saw this tiara and parure, I thought the stones must be amethysts, but they aren't -- they're "pigeon's blood" rubies.  This is Anne-Marie's Ruby Olive Wreath Tiara, part of a parure that came to Greece through the Russian royal family.

The entire history of the tiara is a bit sketchy, but one of the first wearers was almost certainly Queen Olga of Greece, who was born Grand Duchess Olga Constantinova of Russia.  The tiara passed from Olga through the family to Queen Frederike, Anne-Marie's mother-in-law, who passed it on to her son's wife.

I have to say, this is almost tied with Ingrid's Ruby Parure Tiara as my favorite ruby tiara.  I really love the pinkish-purple color of the stones and the intricate wreath motif.  It sets of the purple dress Anne-Marie wore on this occasion well, too!

This is so pretty - I love a good leafy tiara, and this one is a stunner. And with her fabulous tiara hair she really wears it well.
