The pre-wedding theatre gala in Denmark marked the appearance of a brand-new tiara for the Countess of Wessex: the Diamond Button Tiara. (Correct me if I'm wrong, experts, but I believe it's also the only button tiara in the British collection.)
The provenance on this one is still a little sketchy, but many believe the tiara was constructed out of floral components from a tiara once owned by Prince Philip's mother, Princess Andrew of Greece and Denmark. No matter where it's from, though -- I must admit that I don't really like it. But then, button tiaras have really never been my thing. What do the rest of you think of this one?

I don't actually hate this one - which is unusually because button tiaras normally bring me out in a rash. I think because they don't stick up too much and there's a lot of buttons this one is OK.
But the dress!! Oh Sophie!! She needs to get to Rigby and Peller for some decent foundation garments (as my gran would say)
I actually don't hate button tiaras as much as some, so I really like this one. Its like the worlds most fabulous sparkly headband.
I think the difference is that this doesn't just have four or six massive buttons comign from nowhere... this tiara is much nicer than the Swedish ones. The dress is okay but not particularly exciting. There is some debate that this tiara was a loaner that Sophie had for the night, as it's the only time it has been seen in public.
I think there is a picture of The Queen Mother wearing this one back in the 20's or 30's, when she was still the Duchess of York. I may be mixing it up with another. I will have to look at my books when I get home tonight.
@Royski, I think you're thinking about the Diamond Scroll Tiara: http://www.kdmdr.demon.co.uk/queenm.jpg, worn by the Queen Mother, and later by Princess Anne (and possibly Princess Margaret?). Very similar to this.
I really like this button tiara, and I'm not normally they're biggest fan. I completely agree, James, this is much nicer than the Swedish ones. I'd really like to see this one more often on Sophie (not that we really get the chance to see her sporting a tiara): it's so lovely.
And the frock is instantly forgettable. It needs more shape.
*their, rather.
What a terrible mistake. And I claim to study Literature...
I don't like it. Maybe with a better hairstyle?
I've also read speculation that this might have been on loan from a jeweler - which makes sense to me, since she hasn't worn it since.
I like this button tiara, actually. Probably because the buttons are low and close together, whereas the Swedish ones are four/six buttons plonked up high. Much better than the Swedish ones.
Gosh, imagine if Victoria wore the Six-Button Tiara to her wedding. That would be the ultimate nightmare.
"Cute" isn't normally a word I would use for a tiara, but this one qualifies. It isn't grand, it isn't impressive, it isn't memorable, it's cute.
But oh, Sophie, her fashion sense leaves so much to be desired. I expect she doesn't have a huge clothing budget, but she seems to favor the boring and the almost tacky greys, tans, beiges and other wishy washy colors. She's such a pretty girl, we want more from her!
Not a big fan of button tiaras, either.
I wish Sophie was wearing a different dress though, for some reason I don't like this one. *sigh* Dear Brits, one day you will understand that sending Edward and Sophie to the continent is not enough. And to Denmark no less *headdesk*.
really like the tiara. as previous posters said: more buttons, with a lower profile. big enough to be seen, but not too big considering she's minor royalty.
i think her hair should be up.
why won't the brits send more senior representatives to european events?
the dress definitely needs more shape to it.
Sophie & Edward are pretty major royals in protocol terms, although they do have a low public profile. In fact they were the most senior married Royals at this point (other than HM and the Duke of Edinburgh).
I think Charles & Camilla are going to Victoria & Daniel's wedding.
This dress looks like a sack on Sophie is a shame.
