The Crown Prince of Denmark's Wedding: HI&RH Princess Astrid, Archduchess of Austria-Este

The always unpredictable Princess Astrid wore quite a major tiara to the Danish royal wedding: this is the Savoy-Aosta Tiara, an heirloom belonging to the family of Astrid's husband, Archduke Lorenz of Austria-Este.

The intricate diamond tiara belongs to Lorenz's mother, Archduchess Margherita, who was born a princess of Savoy-Aosta.  Margherita often loans the tiara to her sons' wives; Princess Katharina, wife of Lorenz's brother Martin, wore the tiara on her wedding day in 2004.  I don't know the specifics about the tiara's history before Margherita; any Italian royalty experts have any info?

(Also, while the tiara is great, what is Astrid wearing?)

Blimey - she looks like interference on a TV! Gorgeous tiara, bad tiara hair. Mullets are good on rock gods, not so much on Princesses.

Her husband couldn't be anything other than an Archduke - he looks extremely aristocratic!

I'd love to see a full length photo of Astrid in this dress. It really looks like a business suit!

Gorgeous tiara, but the hair is bad. She's wearing the tiara like a hippie headband!

She's wearing it crooked isn't she? Or is that the hair?

No idea about the tiara, but looking at the Savoy-Aosta family tree, I'm not sure anyone could tell whom it was made for in the first place.

She looks like she's playing dressups with the tiara in ordinary clothes. It really just doesn't look impressive at all.

Oh dear. Definitely more effort required, especially when wearing such a lovely tiara. That frock is hideous.

@Heather: Here's a full-length shot. Doesn't improve the whole mess much, does it?

That is a peculiar outfit. The tiara, whilst lovely, looks like it has been dropped on her head from a great height. Odd.
