The Crown Prince of Denmark's Wedding: HRH The Princess of Hanover, Hereditary Princess of Monaco

Princess Caroline dug into the Hanover royal vaults again for her Danish wedding day tiara: this is the Brunswick Diamond Tiara.  It's a tiara with some major history, beginning during the Napoleonic era in France.

A painting of Empress Joséphine, Napoleon's first wife, shows her wearing the elaborate diamond tiara, whose laurel-leaf motif certainly smacks of the Empire period.  From Joséphine, the tiara somehow made it to the coffers of the former Kingdom of Saxony, who sold the tiara to the Duchy of Brunswick.

Brunswick wanted to offer the tiara as a wedding gift to Princess Viktoria Luise, daughter of the German emperor, on her wedding to Prince Ernst August of Hanover in 1913.  The tiara has been in the family ever since, but had not been seen recently until Caroline brought it out at the Danish wedding.  But, sadly, since Caroline and the current Ernst August's marriage is allegedly on the rocks, we may not see these rocks out again for some time.

Just fabulous - I love this tiara, and she looks amazing in it.

The tiara is beautiful, but it looks weird on her. And what's with the black dress?

Maybe EA will give the tiara to Alexandra one day. Considering how truly mad the rest of EA's family is (I did the tree for that particular branch on Saturday and seriously they're insane), she's the only female who should wear it in foreseeable time. Unless one of his sons marries in the upcoming few years, but who would want EA VI? From what I've been reading in the last few months, those two are not any more pleasant than their daddy, just less scandalous.

This is a masterclass in how to wear a tiara I think. A major piece like this needs architectural hair, and Caroline was born to wear it - she looks stunning. That tiara is fierce!

The black dress could be a faux pas, but Cazza is so goddamn elegant, I will forgive her anything really.

I love the way the tiara just sits so beautifully on top of her hair like that. It's just stunning to look at.

I agree with Ursula. This kind of hairdo and tiara looks weird on her. The combination of the hairdo with the dress also makes her look much older than she was at the time. Bad dress by the way, Karl!

I think becaue the tiara is tall and pointed, it accentuates Caroline's very broad, square face. because the placement of the two large diamonds is so bold and symmetrical, it accentuates her droopy, irregular eyes. To add insult to injury, that updo just screams forehead. Beautiful woman and beatiful tiara - just not together.
