RAF Cranwell Graduation: HM The Queen

HM The Queen (28 May 2009)

I could have sworn that I've seen HM wearing this had fairly recently, but my jaunts through the Mad Hattery archives (like a crazy hat fashion show!  I highly recommend it) produced nothing.  It's not the hat that made me think of the White Witch in Scotland last December, and it's not the hat that more recently had me puzzled about whether it was yellow or cream.

So I'll send it out to my readers: is this a brand-spanking new hat busted out just for the visit to RAF Cranwell, or is it a repeat, as I suspected?  Let me know in the comments on this post -- let's get this mad hattering chatter rolling!

Either way, I like it -- although the white/textured fabric combo does feel a tad wintery for May.

(ETA: Alison from The Royal Forums blog points out that the hat is a Rachel Trevor Morgan creation.  Here's a link to her blog entry on the hat designer.  Thanks, Alison!)

Quick look and thought perhaps it was "London School of Economics" but no.....

No - you're indeed right - it's a repeat - worn at the Diamond wedding celebrations nonetheless, and much was made of the press here about the glinty 'diamond' buttons on the coat and hat (though I doubt that even the Queen puts diamond buttons on a day outfit!)

Yes, it is a bit wintry, but the weather has been VERY changeable here... and she is 83, she must feel the cold!

No it is a repeat the hat she wore for her diamond wedding anniversary service in November 2007

Ah, I knew my trusty readers would come through! I knew I wasn't going crazy when I thought it was a repeat ... thank you all for your excellent detective work.

And good point about the weather, James; England in May is often a bit of a pickle weather-wise. Maybe something in the same fabric but a springier color wouldn't have set off my winter-alert. :)
