Stortinget Gala: HRH The Crown Princess of Norway (22 Oct 2009)

We're just lousy with Tiara Alerts lately, aren't we?  Here's the lovely Crown Princess Mette-Marit of Norway wearing the Amethyst Necklace Tiara at the annual Gala for Stortinget.

I love amethysts in general, and I think they look lovely with Mette-Marit's blond hair, but I must admit that convertible tiaras like this one aren't generally my favorite.  The tiara is called a necklace tiara for the simple reason that it can be converted to wear as a necklace.  The reason I tend to like these less, I think, is that they tend to look like spindly bits just sticking up in the air rather than the more intricate and connected tiaras I like more.

What do the rest of you think?  Are you fans of convertible tiaras like this one?

    I think the angle's not helping here... From the front this one is very lovely and rather delicate...
