Nobel Prize King's Dinner: HM The Queen of Sweden

Tiara Alert! Here's Queen Silvia at the Nobel King's Dinner, sporting the über-fancy King Edward VII Ruby Tiara. The tiara gets its name from the person who gifted it to Princess Margaret of Connaught -- her uncle, King Edward VII of Great Britain -- when she married Crown Prince Gustaf Adolf of Sweden in 1905 at Windsor Castle.
Margaret died before she could become Queen of Sweden, but in one of the weird twists of royal genealogy, Gustaf Adolf married Lady Louise Mountbatten as his second wife. Margaret and Louise were cousins, both having descended from Queen Victoria, so Louise and her new step-children were also cousins. How's that for a complicated family tree?
(Okay, now that we've got the tiara history lesson out of the way, let's address what you're all really thinking right now: what on God's green earth is Silvia wearing?)

Must be mistaken but i think it's a wet purple shower curtain...
Seriously Syl this year was just a big NO NO...
How about her lipstick? If I'm not mistaken, I do believe it's... shudder... purple?
Yes, Nico is right. It's a rather unfortunate shower curtain.
It's nearly a Snuggie, which is not a good thing. But at least she wore nice accesories!
A royal Snuggie -- LOL!
It does have a whiff of shower curtain, I'll grant you, but, and perhaps I am just being perverse, I don't hate the dress.
Nice to see a rarely work tiara out, but I have to say, much as I think the design is lovely, I think the base needs widening out a bit to match Silv's big hair. I always feels this looks a bit perched.
My first intsant thought when I saw this pic was "that is an amazing drass, love it!" and then I read everyone else's comments and thought "am I just having a bad day??". But having look at it again, I still like the dress, but not how she's wearing it. The sash just totally defeats the purpose of the dress!! The whole thing is about the drape of the fabric, and the sash cuts right through it. Although it might look better on a slightly more voluptuous lady.
I'm on Team James today, the tiara is too perched on top of the hair.
I like that Maggie - I might start my own hattery team!
Awful !
Boy, am I enjoying this website...I just love it! So glad I stumbled across it and I'm just loving the backgrounds on the royal tiaras!
As for this dress I'll play Devil's advocate and say it's not so bad...it may have looked better if it was belted, though.
I love it! Regal, beautiful, fabulous color.
