Christiansborg Gala: HRH The Crown Princess of Denmark

One more Tiara Alert from the Danish royal gala: it's everyone's favorite elegant Danish Crown Princess, Mary!  She's wearing the same diamond tiara that she wore to her wedding to Crown Prince Frederik back in 2004.

This tiara isn't a Danish royal heirloom; it's new to the family, having been gifted to Mary by her royal in-laws, Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik, as a wedding present.  It's not my very favorite diamond tiara -- I'm not a big fan of the short spikes in between the more elaborate ones -- but overall, not a bad wedding gift, hm?

It's a bit frail for me - Mary's hair can carry off the big rocks. Still she's lovely anyway!

A warning on the dangers of the big fur hat???

The tiara is a bit 'meh' and could do with more rocks. Mary as ever, looks fab though...

I love it. She looks so lady-like. I think her other one would have up-staged the queen, so it's nice she wore something less prominent.

James B, I completely agree. It literally just looks like a bit of twisted wire, than the stunning diadem it's supposed to be.

I really dislike this piece of jewellery worn as a tiara. It would look so much better as a necklace - has Mary worn it as a necklace? Marie's floral tiara is far nicer

Mary wore this tiara once as a necklace during their Australia 2005 visit - i think it was on the Sydney leg of their trip

This tiara definitely needs more rocks- it really does look like twisted wire!

By the way, does this tiara have a name?

  9. Ella says on :

Not that I know of, Eliza -- probably because it's a new piece, purchased specifically for Mary's wedding. Lots of the "names" of tiaras are connected to their historical provenance and owners. I have it listed as "Crown Princess Mary's Wedding Tiara" in our Tiara-pedia. Maybe something similar to that will be its eventual name for reference purposes?

maggie, thanks for the link -- that's crazy! I hope they let the poor guy have a good rest after that!
