Queen Margrethe's getting in on the Tiara Alert for the evening as well, sporting the über-fancy Pearl Poiré Tiara, a nineteenth-century family heirloom. It was likely made in Germany for the wedding of Louise, the daughter of the King of Prussia, to Prince Frederick of The Netherlands. The tiara then passed to her daughter, Lovisa, who was Queen of Sweden, and from there into the hands of Lovisa's daughter, Louise, Queen of Denmark. Phew! That's a lot of Louises.
I don't usually love pearls as a part of a tiara -- not really sparkly enough for me, I suppose -- but I do quite like this one. Heck, if you're going to wear pearls, you might as well suspend them from big diamond arches, right?

I agree with you Ella! This is so lovely. I shall have to remember to wear my pearls suspended from diamonds. When I get them, that is!
Margrethe looks great here - with her diamonds and pearls (a combo I don't mind I must add...), fur and red dress she looks really rather regal!
You see, Margrethe does the opposite of Elizabeth II here. Denmark's Queen always makes the effort for these state occasions/evening do's, whereas Queen Liz is always lack lustre when it comes to these things. However, during the day Elizabeth always looks stunning, while Margrethe looks like a bit of a dogs dinner most of the time (am I being too harsh? - rant over).
On the upside, Margrethe looks stunning here. Her tiara is very reminiscent of Princess Diana's Lover's Knot Tiara (one made for Queen Mary and given to Diana as a wedding present by Queen Elizabeth). Such a lovely design.
Sir Tom - you are SO RIGHT! Margrethe's day wear is kooky (to be kind) whereas Lilibet has found her daywear mojo. Our Queen in the evening though just looks so often like she has stood in a corner and got a flunkie to lob jewels at her and see what sticks. (Actually, I rather like the sound of that game...)
I think Margrethe uinderstands the importance of her evening dresses being a dramatic backdrop for the jewels - whereas Lilibet thinks that a white frock does the trick (word to the wise Lil - it doesn't it washes you out dear).
Oh dear - you've started me ranting now...
Gorgeous collar too.
