Order of the Elephant New Year's Court: HRH The Crown Princess of Denmark

Yay -- a Tiara Alert for one of my favorite European princesses!

Here's Crown Princess Mary, looking her usual gorgeous and radiant self -- wearing the Ruby Parure Tiara once owned by her husband's grandmother, Queen Ingrid.  I love this tiara -- again, my weakness for floral tiaras.  The colored gemstones are worked into the diamonds so beautifully that they look like an integral part of the piece rather than an add-on.  Mary wears this one beautifully, too.  Lovely!

    One word: stunning!

I think this is one of her favorites, as she wears it often. And why not - especially when you have matching earrings and necklace! Oh to be a plucked-from-obscurity princess!

  3. Kiri Anne says on :

Oh! The necklace she is wearing is just part of the big, ol' huge one that goes with the earrings. I think the pendant is flipped over in this photo.
And Queen Ingrid was very close to Crown Princess Mary's husband, Crown Prince Fredrick, so I'm sure the tiara has extra special meaning.

Good call, Kiri Anne -- the necklace does seem like a section from the big one that's a part of the parure. I think it is flipped backward here! The rubies are just gorgeous on Mary.

I also love this - the tiara is so delicate and unusual and looks amazing on the lovely Mary. She is such a star isn't she - Fred did well when he bagged her.

The necklace that makes up the parure is stunning, so would love to see her in that as well, Mary can carry off major bling.

  6. Kiri Anne says on :

Thanks Ella. It's nice to know even princesses have their pendants flip over!
But I must say I saw the whole outfit and the red rubies kind of clashed with the extremely orange dress, lovely as it was. It almost would have worked better if Mary and Marie had switched Bling.

  7. JamesB says on :

Kiri Anne - I looked at the whole lot too, and I agree - the red and the orange was a bit of a clash. (As much as I love the tiara for itself...)

Mary needs another tiara that she can wear with brighter colours. It must be such a bore being a Princess with just the two tiaras - just makes me think of those days when you look in your wradrobe and go 'I've got nothing to wear'...

Mary always looks so fabulous. Such a solid wall of gems could only work on dark hair such as hers. It's so nice to see major bling on a young woman, and for it to actually be effective but not overpowering. Very handy since she will be Queen Consort one day.
But you're right once again, JamesB. A couple more tiaras for the girl would be nice.

This is one of my favorite royal jewelry sets. Gorgeous!

  10. Alison says on :

The pendant Mary is wearing here is actually taken from the brooch (which she also wore that evening)

Really wonderful, two tiaras are not suffisant for our taste but think only to poor Belgian Mmthilde, only one !

  12. cisca says on :

    Mathilde, of course !

  13. maggie says on :

She is fabulous isn't she? Relatives of hers came into the shop I worked in once, and they were lovely too. They'd just been to the wedding, and said the Queen loved his kilt!

This tiara, as is the one Marie's wearing, are the tiaras they're wearing in the 'official' pictures on the Danish Monarchy site. These woman really need to crack into the Danish vaults!
