Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HM The Queen of the Belgians

The Belgian royal family was out in force today in Laeken to attend a memorial service for former members of the royal family, including the king's half-brother, Prince Alexandre, who died in December.  Here's Queen Paola, who did something I particularly like to see -- wearing dark neutrals other than black for mourning wear.

I think this chocolate brown color is really flattering on Paola, but I'm not totally sure about the hat itself.  I like the idea of this unusual shape, but there's something about the way that the front of this is molded that I'm not really crazy about.  What do the rest of you think?

It's like one of those 1930s/40s hats in that quirky cloche with a difference style. I like it, and just love that the beautiful Paola has stayed unnipped and tucked. She's a stylish and beautiful woman.

I like it. I think JamesB's nailed it.

This is a cracking hat, and I think we should see more of the like, to be honest. The 30's and 40's had such a great sense of style

I'm undecided. The moulding at the front makes it look like the prow of a ship...it looks as if she's got it on backwards to me, but it might just be the angle of the pic
