Swiss Alps: HRH The Crown Princess of Denmark

Spring has sprung over here at MH Headquarters, but apparently, the European royals are still enjoying their winter sports!  Crown Prince Frederik and Crown Princess Mary are hitting the slopes in the Swiss Alps this week, and I've got to say, I'm really in love with Mary's choice of a brown ski helmet and a bold purple skiing outfit.  Few things say princess on the piste like a royal purple jacket and ski pants, eh?

Stockholm Concert Hall: HRH The Duchess of Hälsingland and Gästrikland

At, first, I thought lovely reader Shannon had lost her marbles when she e-mailed me this photo of Princess Madeleine arriving to distribute prizes at a Royal Swedish Academy of Science ceremony:

But Shannon was quick to add, "You think - no tiara!  What?!  But wait..."

Presto-change-o, we've got hattery!  (Or, at the very least, bejewelled headwear.)  Shannon, your sanity is safe after all.  Phew!

(Wouldn't it be great if the biggest decision you had to make in a day was tiara or sparkly diamond brooch barrette?)

London Clinic Cancer Centre: HM The Queen

Here's a hat we haven't seen for a bit on HM ... the trusty MH archives say that it hasn't been out and about since November of 2008 (though I thought she'd worn it within the past year. Anyway.)

I like this a good bit more this time than last, partly I think because these photos really let you see the texture of the hat.  I love the deep red-purple color of the hat, and the soft, felty fabric.  Lovely!

And look, kids, we've got a secret stealth hatter trying to get in on the action...

The hospital HM visited is in Devonshire Place in London, and accordingly, that's the Duchess of Devonshire in the funky floral hat on the right.  Methinks somebody wanted to get on the blog, hm? ;)

Swiss Alps: HRH Infanta Leonor and HRH Infanta Sofia

It's a Holy Week miracle ... not one, but two new little princesses for the blog!  (Or, perhaps I should say, infantas.)

It's still ski season for the royals of Europe, and this time, it was the Spanish royal family's chance to hit the slopes.  Princess Letizia, wife of Prince Felipe and future queen of Spain, took her adorable little girls out on the piste in Switzerland for the first time.

The adorable Infanta Leonor, the elder daughter (and future queen of Spain) looks a little nervous to be hitting the bunny slopes for the first time, but at least she's got an adorable pink jacket and helmet to cheer her up!

Also in need of cheering up was her little sister, Infanta Sofia:

Aww, it's okay, Sofia ... you'll get to ski when you're older, too -- and by the way, excellent striped hat!

I really can't wait for these two to become an adorable hattery sister act in coming years.  Yorkies 2.0, perhaps? ¡Olé!

Help me, hatters, I can't decide: is this the same hat that we saw back in November, or a different hat in a different color but in exactly the same shape?  I can't decide if it's the lighting throwing me off or just what...

Rosemary Parker Bowles Memorial: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

Camilla chose one of her go-to memorial hats for today's service at Guards Chapel, Wellington Barracks in honor of Rosemary Parker Bowles.  Rosemary, Camilla's ex-husband Andrew Parker Bowles's second wife, died a few months ago after a battle with cancer.

Cams wore this chapeau most recently on Remembrance Day in Canada.  I like this one, but I feel like we've seen it a lot over the last couple of years.  Maybe time to add a new one to the rotation?

State Visit to Brazil: HM The Queen of Sweden

I know what you're all thinking here ... "Ella, have you officially lost your last shred of sanity?  There's no hattery in this picture!"

Ah, but hatters, look closer ... we do have a tiara here, just not on Silvia's royal crown!  Instead of using this sparkler as a headpiece, she's wearing it as a necklace.  How crafty of her!

This is the Modern Fringe Tiara (or the Carl XVI Gustaf Fringe, if you like).  We've actually only ever seen it on the blog as a necklace; Princess Madeleine also wore it as a necklace during her celebrated tiara-twofer at last December's Nobel ceremony.

Now, if only we could convince one of the Swedish ladies to wear it tiara-style instead, we'd really be in business!

Birthday at Zuma: HRH Princess Eugenie of York

Happy 20th birthday to one of our favorite royal hatters, Princess Eugenie of York!  And leave it to a Yorkie to make sure she's got her crown properly adorned on her big day! :)

I'm not sure I totally understand this headwear choice -- it's not unattractive, but I'm not sure about the tropical flower/leather jacket combo.  I don't know, to me it just doesn't go.  It almost makes it look like Eugenie was dreaming of a Caribbean holiday for her birthday, and when she had to spend it in dreary old London Town instead, she decided to compensate with a hair decoration...

P.S.: Smiley Boyfriend Dave sure is turning out to be handy, isn't he?  Escorting Yorkies to functions ... running in marathons ... and now opening car doors.  How gallant!

P.P.S.: Hope you got some great presents, Your Royal Highness! :)

Thanks to lovely reader Jennifer for info on this event!

State Visit to Brazil: HM The Queen of Sweden

Okay, you all might think I've gone absolutely bonkers, but I really, really like what Silvia chose to wear for this welcoming ceremony in Brazil.  The hat is unusual, but it's fascinating unusual, not weird unusual.  And the saturated saffron shade is just gorgeous against her dark hair.

I even love the pretzel-y back of the hat.  Have I become the mad hatter this time?  What do the rest of you think about this one?

Thanks to the lovely readers who sent in pictures and info about this event!

Model European Parliament: HM The Queen of The Netherlands

Well, if you're going to wear a big giant cake-style hat, I guess you might as well accessorize it with ... a giant bow?
