Queen Anne-Marie here is wearing the tiara that is maybe one of the most important royal heirlooms for the Danish royal family: the Khedive of Egypt Cartier Tiara.
The Cartier tiara was a wedding gift in 1905 from the Khedive of Egypt to Princess Margaret of Connaught on her wedding day to the future King Gustaf VI Adolf of Sweden. The Egyptian gift had special sentimental value – Margaret and Gustaf met and fell in love in Cairo, and he proposed to her at a dinner held at the British Consulate in Egypt. (She said yes, of course!)
When Margaret died, her daughter, the future Queen Ingrid of Denmark, inherited the tiara. Since then, it has been worn by every female ancestor of Queen Ingrid on their wedding days – that includes Queen Margrethe of Denmark, Princess Benedikte of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, Princess Alexia of Greece, and Princess Alexandra of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg.
Next in line to wear the tiara: Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg (assuming she has a religious wedding after her child is born) and Princess Theodora of Greece. When Ingrid died, she left the tiara to her youngest daughter, Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, who obviously still owns it today! It's a lovely, swirly, delicate thing, isn't it?

Here's a slightly better view of the tiara: http://i31.photobucket.com/albums/c391/goldenhill/Royal%20Jewels/Royal%20Jewels%204/khedive-4.jpg
It is a lovely design, and I didn't realise it had such a history (it's always fascinating to find these things out).
These Europeans really know how to wear jewels. It's great.
Ah, I see you got a better view, Ella. That blue gown is gorgeous.
Wow she looks amazing - that tiara is lovely, I like the light, filigree design. Very pretty indeed.
As well as her handbag and wrap, she appears to be carrying a goody-bag (and making a poor attempt at hiding it under the wrap!) Or could it be a pressie for big-sis??
@Sir Tom: the clearer picture is thanks to lovely reader Kirsten, who passed along this Billed-Bladet gallery. The pictures are great, if anyone wants a look at the full lot!
Love that she chose a tiara that has special significance not just to her, but also to her sister the birthday girl. Thoughtful and fabulous at the same time, double win!
1 - Will Fredrik's daughter get to wear it on her wedding day?
2 - Am I alone in thinking the necklace/earrings are too chunky/heavy/whatever for the light tiara? It do love it - I think it's my new fav.
1. I would assume Isabella would be in line to wear the tiara, should the family tradition continue. So would Alexia's daughters (Arrietta, Ana, and Amelia) and Crown Prince Pavlos's daughter (Maria-Olympia).
2. I think the necklace is too big for the neckline of the dress, but I see what you're saying about the tiara/necklace combo.
Love the tiara - and so nice when they have a bit of history. Just wish she would de-bouffe her hair a bit so you could see it more. The blue dress is amazing, she looks so elegant. I reckon that is her sis' pressie in the bag there, looks like she bought her a headscarf or something. Present buying must be a chore for this lot...
