Tiara Alert ... and from a princess we haven't seen in a tiara yet! Here's the always-lovely Princess Máxima, wearing a tiara that I absolutely adore.
This is the Dutch Sapphire Parure Necklace Tiara, which is sort of a “mash up” affair. It’s made up of a sapphire-and-diamond choker necklace from the Dutch Sapphire Parure topped with diamond and sapphire ornaments taken from Queen Wilhelmina’s Wedding Gift Parure. That makes it the smaller tiara of two from the Sapphire Parure set. I don’t think Máx has worn it before, but Princess Margriet has fairly recently.
I think the size and shape of this tiara is just splendid, and I love how the sapphire stones are worked in with the diamonds. Honestly, I think this may be the best sapphire tiara I’ve seen on display since I started this blog! It’s just stunning.

I love this! I love how matchy-matchy the sapphires are with the blue of her dress and jewelry. Maybe if the dress were solid blue rather than a print? But then it wouldn't have that signature stamp of Maxima flair.
Fantastic marriage of princess, jewels and outfit here. This tiara is lovely, I don't think I can recall seeing her look better. These girls are really pulling out all the stops for us.
(Do you think they're reading the blog???)
Great all around. Beautiful blue gems, gorgeous blond princess, I even like the Delft-style dress.
Ursula, Delft is precisely what came to my mind too.
It's not that often we see sapphire tiaras (no idea why), but this is altogether fabulous. These princesses really are going all out for this week. A glorious triumph for Máxima.
Maxima really is the most lucky CP in terms of access to tiaras - she must have worn at least 12 different tiaras in various versions since her wedding
Love the sapphires - they look great on her
Máxima looks phenomenal here! I also love how this look is reminiscent of Eva "Evita" Perón, thus channeling her Argentine roots. ¡Viva Máxima!
J'adore. I must say, Maxima is my best dressed of the evening. The print dress is lovely and flattering, and the tiara is superb!
Wow. I think I'll be saying that a lot today! She looks AMAZING!
I have a question, and I figured the readers at Mad Hattery would have the answer! Why is Maxima not the Crown Princess of The Netherlands? Isn't her husband known as the Crown Prince?
Actually, Willem-Alexander is known as 'The Prince of Orange'. Apparently, it is just a hereditary title that is conferred on the heir apparent alone, and this is not extended to the spouse as is generally the case across Europe. Their daughter, Princess Catharina-Amalia, will be the next one to hold the title 'Princess of Orange' as she is the next hereditary heir. Indeed, she is styled 'The Hereditary Princess of Orange'.
However, Maxima was created Princess of the Netherlands and Princess of Orange-Nassau upon her marriage.
Hope that clears it up, Eliza. It's different rules all over Europe, it would seem, depending on which royal house you marry into.
Thanks Sir Tom!
My five-year-old daughter thinks Maxima wins the prize for the evening, followed closely by Mary. They all look so happy. I just do love Maxima's sapphires, though. Such a fun choice.
Kiri Anne- I agree completely with your daughter!
Maxima's dress = Carolina Herrera. Perfectly chosen and perfectly worn. A great print that still looks "evening." And nothing like historical sapphires to add wattage to an already blindingly incandescent evening of jewels.
Maxima is absolutely beautiful with her sapphires. Simply stunning!
Like they were made for her: A KNOCKOUT!
