Birthday Dinner at Fredensborg Palace: HRH The Crown Princess of Norway

Time for some major Tiara Alerts, hatters -- including a veritable cavalcade of brand-new sparklers!  First up: the lovely Mette-Marit of Norway.

From the front, the Diamond Daisy Tiara doesn't look like a whole lot of anything, but from the side, it really comes alive:

See how understated and yet how lovely it is here?  This is the tiara that Mette-Marit wore on her wedding day to Crown Prince Haakon (who made it back to Europe!  Hey, Haakon!) in 2001; it was a wedding gift from her new in-laws, King Harald and Queen Sonja.

The tiara is celebrating its 100th birthday this year; it was made in 1910, back when Queen Victoria’s granddaughter, Maud, was Queen of Norway.  Sometimes I don’t really like the low profile of this tiara, but I love the way it looks with Mette-Marit’s hairstyle at this event – almost like a sort of Grecian headband with the wavy hair.  Thumbs up!

    Very greek goddess normally I'm into MM's glacially frosty ice-princess like aura but this makes her look young, gorgeous and approachable.

    I love how she's done her hair (or rather had her hair done - gosh, can you imagine the catfights if these ladies were all sharing the straighteners??)

    This is a lovely tiara on Mette-marit. With her cool colouring too big a piece would look rather glacial, but this is just right.

    And doesn't she look happy to have Haakon back?

    I don't know about everyone else but I am LOVING THIS!!!!

    It's like the battle of the Crown Princesses this week. First it's Mary of Denmark, and now Mette-Marit. I don't think I could choose between them.
    This is tiny tiara compared to some of the belters we've seen over the past couple of days, but I still like this. It sits so nicely in her hair. Lovely.

    It's lovely and from the side I am in love with the hair, just from the front it does rather hide the tiara. I love her dress though - and I am with Sir Tom in now having a MM crush - perhaps Mary for winter, MM for summer?

    This softer hairdo on MM is WONderful. So it hides the tiara a bit...she sparkles nonetheless.
