Birthday Gala at the Danish Royal Theatre: HM Queen Anne-Marie of Greece

Roll out the red carpets, hatters: we've got a brand-new queen in our midst!

... erm, well, sort of, anyway.  This is Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, wife of King Constantine.  She was born a princess in Denmark, and is a sister to both Queen Margrethe and Princess Benedikte.  She became Queen of Greece at the tender age of 18, but it didn't last long; her husband was deposed in the early 1970s, and the family has lived in exile, mainly in England, ever since.

But once a queen, always a queen, to some extent, anyway.  She may have lost the throne, but she's still got the rocks!  This is the Greek Emerald Parure Tiara, which some have speculated came to Greece from Russia with Queen Olga, who was born a Romanov and married King George I of Greece in 1867.

Wherever they may have come from, I really like the way the gemstones are set in this tiara -- it's not overwhelming, and somehow manages to be delicate.  This tiara has gone through lots and lots of different settings over time, but this one, I think, highlights the emeralds just perfectly.  Brava, Your Maj!

I've been waiting so long for Anne-Maire to make an appearance. I truly believe the full set of these danish sisters has been absent from this blog for far too long.
I love this parure (bit of an emerald fetish), and the fact it goes into a few settings. Like her sisters, she really knows how to wear parures (something we see very little of in Britain - a dreadful shame IMO).
    She looks fabulous.

Love the tiara, but it's too many emeralds overall for me this evening I'm afraid - the earrings and necklace don't work with the high neckline of her dress

They do all look like they are having a fab time though, don't they??

Oh I love this tiara! The emeralds look gorgeous in her hair, although the diamonds get a little lost in all the paleness.. but that's okay because those emeralds! Oh my!

and Maggie, did I read that correctly: "too many emeralds" ? No such thing! LOL

Too many emeralds?! Surely not! This is fabulous. And yes - we don't see enough parures here, our lot do rather mix and match don't they.

I love the tiara, but what I am really loving is the necklace, the cabuchon drop emeralds are stunning - and you just wouldn't believe that Anne-Marie is a woman in her mid 60s wouold you, she looks fantastic!

I do like the emerald - who wouldn't!?!?! - but I just don't think they look right with this dress. Change the neckline and she would have been fab!

I agree with Maggie: I don't like hte necklace deal. I don't think it really matches the tiara (oh to have that problem!)
I also just don't think it was in the best taste to wear her emerald set when her sister, the birthday girl, was wearing hers. But maybe that's just me.
