Birthday Gala at the Danish Royal Theatre: HM The Queen of Denmark

 

And, for the big finale Tiara Alert, it's the birthday girl!  In a tiara we've not seen before on the blog!

This is the Danish Emerald Parure Tiara, which has been in the Danish royal family for more than a century.  The different pieces of the parure were apparently made in 1840 for Queen Caroline Amalie, wife of King Christian VIII of Denmark, but some of the emeralds used have supposedly been in the royal family's possession since the early 1700s.  How's that for historical provenance, hm?

I love the dark gemstones here against Margrethe's spring green dress -- a very unusual but beautiful monochromatic contrast, I think.  She looks stunning.  That's the Great Dane we all know and love!

(Phew.  That's all for now, folks.  I need a nap.  Lesson learned: if tiara-blogging Margrethe's birthday gala winds me, even with a ton of the guests held up by the crazy volcanic ash cloud, I'm going to need to start stamina exercises immediately so that Crown Princess Victoria's wedding doesn't kill me!) :)

    WOW! Let's face it if you are the birthday girl and you know the competition is going to be stiff, you need to pull out all the stops. And the Great Dane has sure done that - whistles, bells and all. Fur, emeralds, huge frock - Marge has gone all out, and it is a-maze-ing! She looks as regal as you like here. What I am particularly loving is the necklace, it is stunning. Yet again, she shows how after dark she is the Queen of 'em all!

    Now there is a lady who looks stunning and knows it! The dress is fabulous, and the tiara is beautiful. She looks every inch the Queen here and also looks like she's loving every minute of it.

    And kudos Ella on a job well done - you must be exhausted!

    This a triumph for the Great Dane. The green gown and emeralds look absolutely fabulous together. I bloody love emeralds. She always looks so damn wonderful and majestic at night. She really knows how to do this look. I hope she had a ball.
