We've had new queens, princesses, and grand duchesses today: how about a new royal girlfriend? This is Carina Axelsson, the longtime partner of Gustav, Hereditary Prince of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg (the son of Princess Benedikte), and she's brought us a Tiara Alert!
Carina, an American-born former model, and Gustav, heir to the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg title, probably would have been married a while ago, if not for a pesky problem with a will made by Gustav's grandfather, Prince Gustav Albrecht. The will automatically disinherits any member of the S-W-B family who marries someone who isn't noble, Protestant, and, erm, "Aryan" (should give you an idea of which time period of German history the will was made in, unfortunately).
Not only is Carina a commoner (i.e., not noble), her mother's family is of Mexican descent (i.e., not so much "Aryan"). Gustav is fighting the will in court so that he can hopefully both marry Carina and inherit the S-W-B estate and title, and in the meantime, his relationship with Carina is in something of a holding pattern.
In the meantime, Carina has been accepted into the family by the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berlebergs and the Danish royals, and she regularly attends official events with Gustav. Sometimes Princess Benedikte lends tiaras to Carina, but word on the street is that this one is brand-new. (So it's going to need a name -- any thoughts? Right now, I'm just going with the Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleberg Diamond Spike Tiara.) It's a bit too tall for my tastes, but if the top spikes were lowered just a little bit, I think it would be quite pretty.

Wow - I didn't know this poignant story - I love that they still let her play with the tiaras, our lot would still keep her locked up somewhere a'la Waity Katie. Nice tiara too love!
Hm, that's very interesting. I hope they can get wed soon. That law's ridiculous.
I actually quite like the tiara. Normally I don't like button style diadems, but this is quite lovely.
Actually, this isn't even a button style tiara. Scrap the last comment. Sorry!
Boo-hiss to the nasty grand-dad, and hurrah to the nice modern family who let her wear the tiara anyway. I like this one - it's delicate without being fragile.
