Christiansborg Banquet Dinner: HM The Queen of Denmark

Hey, everybody, it's the birthday girl!  (Well, almost -- the birthday girl minus three days!)  And a Tiara Alert, too!  Love that Margrethe busted out the super-fancy Pearl Poiré Tiara for this occasion -- love the center drop pearls that swing about.

I think diamond-and-pearl tiaras look best on more mature royal ladies, too, don't you think?  Something about the sparkly diamonds, the gleaming pearls, and the silvery hair...

Update: Want to see the pearls in motion?  Here's a video from the banquet, featuring a Danish comedian interacting with HM.  I can't claim to understand any Danish at all -- apparently their jokes heavily feature stapling Post-It notes to slices of deli ham -- but Margrethe loves it, and every time she laughs, the pearls go all aflutter! :)

What a fabulous set of rocks our Great Dane has here. She always looks so wonderful in the evenings.

These are amazing rocks - check the size of the pearls on her necklace too. This is fabulous - yet again - as SirTom says, she is in a league of her own at night.

We forget how rare "natural" pearls are in these days of plastic and cultured varieties. But these gems are no doubt of the highest quality and in combination truly present a majestic picture. It would be great to see the "poires" in the tiara move as HM's head moves. Breathtaking no doubt.

I see the pearls moving on the Danish Tv, wonderful.

wow, she is truly dripping in pearls! And I love the way she's wearing her tiara, sort of wrapped around her hair, instead of "embedded" in it, if you know what I mean. She looks great!

I hear ya, Scarebaby; that's the best tiara hair I've ever seen. The only thing I'd change about her look is the sleeves of her dress. They're an odd length--too long for short sleeves, but too short for 3/4 length--and I'm not a fan of the fussy, flowery bits. Still, those are very minor complaints. Her jewels are perfect, and her outfit is otherwise elegant and pretty.

She does look fab when she goes all out, it has to be said. But I wonder whether she and Mary could have swapped tiaras?? The delicate diamonds would out better on Her Majesty's fine hair, and Mary could really carry off that big beast of a coronet

She looks great - I am totally amused by the look on her face in the photo! I've tried to learn Danish, and it's nice to know I wasn't the only person making 'odd' faces while speaking it!
@ maggie: I would love to see Mary in this one, but I'm not sure about switching. Would the light coloring of the Queen's hair work with the othe one?

I just looked again, and I kind of got a 'Ha ha ha on you all! I'm the birthay girl and have tons of fun pearls!' vibe. She is just too, too fun.

That video is hilarious: if only it had english subtitles. Margrethe looks so much fun, especially when the royal hand is left waving a slice of ham about.
So lovely to see the pearls in motion. She's fabulous. I adore Margrethe.

Wow - I bet our Queen is jealous. I can't say I'm an expert on what goes on at royal banquets, but I'm fairly sure she never gets to do magic tricks with ham.

  12. Sir Tom says on :

I'd pay good money to see Elizabeth II muck about with ham at a banquet, but something tells me we'll never get the chance.
