Let the fancy birthday festivities for Queen Margrethe begin! The Danish royals gathered at Christiansborg Palace for a banquet dinner in honor of HM's big 70th birthday, and the tiaras were out in full force!
Princess Marie, predictably, wore her wedding tiara -- it's really the only tiara she has available to wear, but it's a darn good one, isn't it? Really one of my favorites in the whole Danish tiara array.
The dress, though, looks like the gown that Meryl Streep wore to this year's Golden Globes. Works on a stately actress like Meryl -- not so much on a youthful princess like Marie. Lose the sleeves, Your Royal Highness!

That dress really is too old for her, and as much as I adore this tiara, I do wish they'd bust out a new one for Marie, the poor love. It's still gorgeous, however.
Lovely tiara, but the dress appears to be a shroud.
For a change Marie wore her hair down at this event and i liked it with this beautiful tiara
I was always under the impression that "full dress" or White tie occasions meant little or no sleeves on women. Decolletage and bare arms, that is. Excuses can be made for "mature" royals. This dress just looks loose--not fitted well enough. It's not an unattractive gown, just not quite what the occasion calls for.
The dress will be ok without the sleeves. The tiara is good.
Yeah, the dress is reading "cheap polyester" to me. I'm sure it's not, but it looks too mature and all-around chintzy to me. I will say, though, that she wears white very well.
I don't object to the sleeves per se (who doesn't have a bingo-wings moment once in a while?), but it looks a bit big for her. And with lots of dress and neckline stuff going on the lines would have looked cleaner with her hair up. And would have hidden the tiara band as well (fusspot that I am!!)
@ maggie: 'Bingo Wings!' it's my new favorite phrase. You rock.
I think this tiarra looks amazing on her here. I love it with the hair down! She is really not my favorite - I can't even tell you why. But she looks lovely (from the neck up) in this ensamb.
If we should give all the wifes of Prince Joachim more than 1 tiara, we would lose them all. With regards from Denmark
