One more Tiara Alert for the evening...
... but, unfortunately, it's Crown Princess Mary's Wedding Tiara, a sparkler I'm starting to like less and less every time I see it. It's too sparse, too small, and not sparkly enough. Hm.
I think we need to start a campaign to get Mary another tiara -- she wears this one and the Ruby Parure (which is gorge, and I wish we'd seen it tonight instead) far too often, since she doesn't have a third to swap in. The woman's going to be a queen one day -- and with the number of tiara events she attends, I think she needs another sparkler on the bench, don't you?
So, hatters: if you were going to choose a third tiara for Mary, what style/gems/etc. would you select?

I really can't stand this pathetic excuse for a tiara. It just looks like twisted wire. I think she'd look absolutely stunning in an amethyst parure. I don't think the Danes have one, unfortunately, but Mary would looks wonderful in those purple gems with her colouring.
Yeah - I don't hate the tiara, but totally agree it's not as fab as the rubies, and she needs another one. She was seen out in one fairly recently but the word on the street was it was paste or at least just non precious stones. The dress is old I think - from her pre wedding ball? But as ever, she looks gorgeous. She is by far my favourite Crown Princess.
HM the birthday girl wore a red (cerise in the press) dress with diamond and pearl jewels. I don't think it's an accident that the next queen (consort) CPcss Mary also wore a red dress with diamond and pearl adormnent. Yes, the tiara isn't a whopper, but the overall impression was lovely, if understated so as not to upstage The Queen--as if that were possible.
Sometimes i like this tiara and other times i dont - but on this outing with the fab red evening dress, pearl necklace and antique pearl bangle i think it works. The tiara can be coverted into a necklace (she has done this once during their Australia 2005 tour) which can make it look awkward.
@JamesB - yes Mary wore a new tiara last year at Henrik's 70th birthday celebrations. It was called the "Midnight Tiara"

The tiara was actually loaned to Mary for the evening from the Tiara Exhibit in Rosenborg Slot. From what i can remember there were some diamonds and moon stones in the piece. The designer of the tiara was Charlotte Lynggaard.

Even before scrolling down to read the text I was already thinking, "Why isn't she wearing the Ruby Parure? She has a red dress on!" If I had the money to spare I'd totally commission a couple of tiaras for her. I feel like only CP Mary with her gorgeous dark hair would make anything look great!
A real crown princesse tiara, she can't wore a most important in the first dinner. I thinck we can see the Ruby Tiara tomorow or Saturday.
That diamond and moonstone tiara is beautiful isn't it - I like it being not as shiny as the others, and rather unusual. If only she had it for keeps... Perhaps she might get another fab loaner for this week's shindig?
@Alison: Ooh, I'd never seen that photo before! That tiara is lovely -- really modern and unusual, but striking and beautiful at the same time.
@Sir Tom: I'm totally on board with the amethyst idea. Dark purple gems would look amazing in Mary's brown hair!
On a tiny dainty lady this would look fine, but on a big bold lass like Mary it just looks frail and a bit weedy - she just swamps it. She can carry off something a bit bigger, so you think they could knock something up for her.
Mind you, if you are the one actually wearing it, there's probably a lot to be said for the smaller and lighter the better!
She wore this lovley dress in '04 with the ruby set. It was stunning! But I suspect she didn't want to repeat (and risk snaks from her fans at Mad Hattery perhaps?:)). I agree she didn't want to upstage the Queen. It must be rather the balancing act to be so stunning and NOT upstage any 70 year old woman!
(but I do like this tiarra - @ maggie: I'm short, and would be willing to become tiny if it needs a new home!)
I hate this tiara. Period.
She needs a gorgeous tiara of pearls and diamonds like my absolute favorite English tiara called the Lovers Knot Tiara. It has height and weight to it that's for sure and it's decked out with lots and lots of beautiful pearls and diamonds. Ah, so beautiful.
