Christiansborg Banquet Dinner: HRH The Princess of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg

Princess Benedikte, bless, her, is the only Danish royal lady who really brought the big guns to this Tiara Alert situation ... she busted out a sparkler we've never seen on the blog.  Hooray!

It's a little tough to see in this photo, but I believe this is what I'll call Benedikte's Floral Birthday Tiara, which she received as a gift on her 18th birthday from her parents, King Frederik IX and Queen Ingrid.  Apparently the tiara is created partially from a brooch that was originally owned by Benedikte's grandmother, Queen Alexandrine, consort of King Christian X of Denmark.  Lovely!

From what we can see, this is lovely. Just wish we had a better angle.

It is quite tricky to see the tiara in amongst her lush grey hair, but here is a better pic of it from a few years back. http://www.gettyimages.co.uk/detail/52115962/Tim-Graham-Photo-Library

I really like her blue dress - a fab colour on her.

I agree w/JamesB, the sari-inspired dress is wonderful with her coloring.

The decollette (as said in my dictionnary) is too deep for a lady of her age.

Good grief that woman has thick hair!! There are probably tiaras lost in there - give her a shake someone and see what falls out.

I hate that dress with a fiery passion. I have completely taken against it, and I'm not really sure why.

She looks much thinner in the photo, to me. Anyone else? I love this tiarra, but I agree it's kind of lost in her hair. (Do not get me started on the sisters and their vast differences in hair!!! There's a new blog for you, Ella. :) )

I agree with you, Maggie! I too hate the dress! If it had had little capped sleeves, and only one colour it would have been much nicer.
