State Visit Gala: HM The Queen of Denmark

In an evening full of repeated tiaras, leave it to Margrethe to bust something out of the vaults that we haven't seen yet on the blog!

This is the Baden Palmette Tiara, another of the tiara from Queen Ingrid's major tiara haul, brought from Sweden to Denmark when she married Margrethe's father, King Frederik IX.  This tiara's still a historical heirloom, but it's actually only a little more than a hundred years old.  It was made originally for Grand Duchess Luise of Baden, whose daughter, Victoria, married Gustaf V of Sweden.  Their son, Gustaf VI Adolf, was Ingrid's father.

It's tough to see from this photo, but the Baden is a fabulous tiara, with its intricate palm motifs and sparkly diamonds.  Love it!

You go girl!! On a 'meh' evening for the daughter-in-laws Her Majesty shows them how to do glamour big style!! I wish we had a better view of the tiara, but it looks like a stunner. And she looks amazing in this dress. She really should wear blue all the time, it looks fabulous on her.

I really like this, and I think it's beautifully complimented by Margrethe's blue gown. A lovely delicate number.
Also, what a set of rocks she has swinging from her neck!

Wow. I officially declare this "look" the best Daisy look ever.

Count me in too. She really looks nice! my neck and head would hurt from all the lovely jewellry, though.

Just noticed: Why is she carrying a big purse to a dinner?

That blue dress is fabulous - Marge does is again! The tiara's not so bad too.. but yeah, the real story is that necklace - that is some serious rockage. Love it.

This is the dress she wore for the last night private dinner for her birthday (the one made famous by "the kiss"). I like the contrast of blue with brown. Interestingly, Henrik wore a brown dinner jacket at that dinner. Matched well.

I'm going to be the bad guy and say I don't like this so well. The color is great (and obviously and homage to the Order of the Elephant). But I don't like the sleeves. The bodice doesn't fit all that well and the line isn't great... The purse looks like something she pulled off the rack and had dyed to match her dress.
The fabulous jewels do overcompensate for the dress, though and I'm willing to say that this outfit is a winner.

Oh I love it! I love that it has hearts - so important to DK. Why doesn't she wear it more often?!

This has been mentioned on other sites, but this tiara is interesting not only for it's history but for the unusual treatment of the motifs--palmettes. Traditionally, they are reversed, with the "point" facing up. In this configuration, they not only resemble the palmettes, but hearts as well. Here's the wiki info on palmettes

    Layers of meaning...it's all good.
