Hooray: it's a Tiara Alert from GD Maria Teresa at the National Day Gala! It's a little tough to see here, but MT is wearing Grand Duchess Marie-Adélaïde's Tiara, a diamond tiara with leaf and floral motifs.
Marie-Adélaïde is probably one of the most tragic figures in Luxembourg's history -- as the eldest of six daughters of Grand Duke William IV, she became the very first reigning Grand Duchess in 1912. But on the horizon, of course, was the First World War, and a contest between the French and the Belgians to undermine Marie-Adélaïde and annex the grand duchy. Under pressure, Marie-Adélaïde abdicated only seven years after her reign began; her sister, Grand Duchess Charlotte, took over. (GD Charlotte's grandson, Henri, is the current Grand Duke.) Marie-Adélaïde sought refuge at a convent, but in 1924, she died of influenza in Germany at the young age of 29.
A sad story -- but a fabulous tiara! This sparkler is actually convertible; the center stone can be swapped out and worn with either a diamond or, as MT has it here, with a sapphire. Love a tiara that can pull double duty!

Ah, poor Marie Adélaide. What a way to go.
However, a fabulous tiara. I love the sapphire centre stone. Our usually doughy Grand Duchess looks birlliant here. The frock is a gorgeous colour and cut for her. With the tiara, she's got a pretty damn good look going on here.
She is having a really good few days! The dress is a fabulous colour for her, and I love how she's done her hair - that tiara is shown off to perfection. And what fabulous skin she has. Being a dumpling rather than a twiglet has its benefits...
Our little Lux Dumpling is just glowing today! Fab dress, Fab Colour, Fab Duchess. Her hair and skin are lovely, she is still as pretty as she was when she first became a royal.
MT looks fab. Tiara is perfect, although it looks slightly askew.
Oh this is pretty. She looks great too, our little GD!
Oh here's a close up of the tiara- not from that night, though. http://i30.photobucket.com/albums/c317/WKirkwood/JewelsSwedishVisitApril08.jpg
She's a rather 1970's Lux dumpling today, and it suits her. I like the hair with that tiara, it's kinda fun.
Finally, a smaller, more flattering, non-hat tiara for M-T! Bravo!
Wish she used this designer all the time. She's cute, rather than beautiful, and needs the right clothes to look her best. The pearl gray, short-skirted suit she wore on National Day looked good, too. She needs sleeves, even cap sleeves, not sleeveless. And she needs to ditch the tight Grecian pleated gowns she gets into on special occasions like weddings.
This deep blue gown, with the right tiara hairdo, and nice tiara, shows how very good she can look when everything is right.
Her son, Guillaume, takes after her with his heavy-set looks.
Grand duchess MT is pretty. Just pretty. She has a sweet face, the most lovely complexion and a wonderful smile. Frankly, I'd love to look like her.
She actually wears Saab very, very often.
I've never saw this tiara ever worn with any other center stone. I'm not convinced it is convertible.
