State Visit from The Netherlands – Gala Dinner: HH Princess Astrid, Mrs. Ferner

Here's a brand-new tiara for the blog!  Princess Astrid is wearing Queen Maud's Turquoise Tiara, one of the tiaras that Astrid herself owns.  The tiara, first owned by Astrid's grandmother, Queen Maud, was apparently a wedding present to Maud when she married Prince Carl of Denmark (who, through a series of royal gymnastics, later became King Haakon VII of Norway).

You can't tell from this photo, but this tiara is one of the rare ones that actually encircles the wearer's entire head.  I quite like it -- turquoises are sometimes a tough stone to pull off in royal jewelry, but this one is delicate and fab.

    I like this - I love turquoises, and this is very pretty indeed. I like how this pair are all matchy-matchy.

    And royal gymnastics should be an Olympic sport!

    Two new tiaras for me! I'm loving the turquoise, they're a super gorgeous colour and go perfectly with Astrid's hair colour and skin tone.

    I've never been overly keen on turquoises, actually, but I do like this tiara. It really suits Astrid.

    I love the turquoise! It could only be better if it were convertible and she could also wear it as a necklace.
