Appropriately, Princess Mabel wore her wedding tiara to Victoria's wedding: it's a second diamond setting of the Sapphire Parure Tiara. It's a little sparse for me, but overall, not too bad.
Less appropriate was what Mabel chose to pair with said tiara -- and I don't mean Prince Friso ...

Princess Mabel and Prince Friso

Prince Friso looks appropriately uncomfortable here...he's probably worried that they will get bounced at the door because his wife is under-dressed!
There was obviously a mix up at the pattern cutters, since her outfit appears to be three quarters evening dress, one quarter pin-stripe suit. Most peculiar.
The tiara is OK - nice big stones, so not as sparse as some.
you've got to wonder at some of Mabel's fashion choices...or maybe ALL of them!
Nice tiara.
Okay, I'm officially perplexed. This is like some sort of optical illusion. Is it pants with fabric drapped in random places? Or is it strips of different fabris sewed together?
It's not a bad outfit. Personally, I don't think it's appropriate for a church wedding, but not because of the pants: the top looks like a bathing suit. If she had put a stylish jacket on, or had worn a wrap, it would have worked better. But that would probably have been too conventional.
I'm looking at it again and...is it trousers??? I think it is. Trousers with net curtains stuck into the waistband.
I've only seen this one photo but I think it's a pair of trousers with tulle coming out of the waist band and a chiffon top. Sort of a deconstruction of your typical formal wear. Kind of clever in a way.
From the waist up she looks great, but the whole outfit is wrongwrongwrong for a royal wedding. Though I have to say, I do kinda actually like this look. Its very mabel and would have been perfect for an art event or something.
I just bought some sheer curtains for the living room, and I swear they looked exactly like this. Edgy is fine at an avant guard art show, but not at a wedding.
Mabel has proven to have absolutely no taste in clothing! This is a disgrace! She wears designercloths all the time, but most of the time they are just disgusting. And she doesn't have the looks at all. But wearing this pyama at a royal wedding is an offence to the Swedish couple!
My littel girl from 5 years old, puts tule just like this in her trousers and thinks she's a ballet dancer... Why pay more?
Would Mabel really have chosen this outfit, looking at herself in the mirror and thinking:" Yes! This is it! I'm looking great!"
Sweet Jesus woman! What the hell is this? I think she thinks she is Carrie Bradshaw and can get away with these out there styles. Mabel, love - you can't.
This is ill conceived, unflattering, inappropriate and just plain odd. I applaud anyone for reflecting their personality in their clothes, but this is a step too far. Uurgh.
This dress is made by Victor & Rolf, who made also her wedding (bow) dress. They don't understand what to wear to a royal wedding. It also isn't her 'cup of tea': modern outfit, wrong face!
Do you suppose Mabel saw Laurentin's outfit and decided (out of kindness) she just couldn't let her sister-in-law have the most hideous outfit, so she grabbed a pair of Friso's trousers and added one to her dress????
From the waist up, it's not bad at all. But the waist down, all I can think of is "what the.....????"
WHO let this fruitcake out of the fruit celler? This "ensemble" is as tasteless as it is tacky. There is a time and place for "freedom of expression" but Mabel obviously cannot get enough attention in her own country so she has to try to steal some of THE FUTURE QUEEN OF SWEDENS limelight. But I suppose one cannot expect much from anyone who would wear one of the SILLIEST wedding gowns ever created, and at her own wedding to boot!!! I guess when one is at the "bottom of the royal barrel", one must grab what little attention they can get. Since she appears to have such little respect for herself or her own children, one cannot expect her to have any respect at all about someone else's feelings. So Mabel always remember who is a future Queen and who is......uh,.......NOT!!!
May be she should have worn his outfit and he should have worn hers? Victor/Victoria?
The diamonds in that tiara should be chilling a gin and tonic they're so big! Mabel's draped bodice is sublime, but the pants with the curtain drape. Words fail me!
the least said about Mabel's outfit the better. But the tiara now - one of my all time favourites.
