Princess Claire obviously had the wrong event penciled in on her calendar today -- rather than the national day military parade, she clearly thought she was scheduled to attend prom in 1954.

The hat on its own is actually quite lovely -- I really like the pearly gray -- but the entire ensemble makes me want to bust out a karaoke rendition of "Hopelessly Devoted to You."  But now, there's noooooowhere to hiiiiiide, since you pushed my love asiii-iiide!

Yeah, Paola, I'm confused, too.  You're wearing -- a lopsided, lacy ring of Saturn?

Yep, definitely a lacy ring of Saturn made of plastic that she left in the car on the hottest day of the year and melted.  (Wow.  Is that the weirdest hattery description I've ever done or what?)

First things first: I love Princess Mathilde.  I want to be Princess Mathilde.  She just radiates warmth and kindess, doesn't she?  This was Mathilde's first outfit and hat of the day, worn to the Te Deum service and to the walkabout, where she greeted royal fans. 

Love the black and white color scheme, but this flowery headpiece (back of the head hattery again!) just pales in comparison, IMO, to her gorgeous headpiece from last year.  Let's hold out hopes that the military parade hattery -- she always changes between the Te Deum and the military parade -- will be better!

I think I've figured out what's happening here: clearly, this hat was, like my coffee table, a little off-kilter -- so Camilla decided she'd level it off by shoving a big bunch of fabric under it to prop it up.  When you look at it that way, it's less a messy hat than a brilliant feat of engineering!

Aw, fake royal boyfriend, dry those tears ... because I'm baaaaack! 

Had a great vacation, but missed you crazy hatters like you wouldn't believe!  I see you've all kept the place nice and neat for me while I was gone, but seriously -- who let CP have the hair gel, hm?  Next time he asks for it, say you can't find it!

But anyway -- how about another Non-Hat Royal Chat post for the week?  I'll be slowly catching up this week on what I've missed -- and gearing up for one of our first wedding flashback posts ahead of next month's Greek royal wedding!  It's so good to be back!

I think this is a new hat (at least to the blog), and I love it!

Correct me if I'm wrong, kids, but I'm not finding this in our archives anywhere.  I think I'd remember it -- it's so fab!  This is absolutely the best color on HM, and the shape is just tops.  I even like the little bunch of monochromatic posies -- and I'm not even bothered by the feather!  Someone, take my blood pressure!

Queen Margrethe and Prince Henrik attended the funeral of Daisy's friend -- and fellow opera enthusiast -- Countess Irene Wedell today.  Marg's actually wearing a different (or reworked) version of a hat she wore during last year's state visit to Vietnam.  I like it better with the black brim, but the antennae still aren't doing it for me.

One of the annual foreign royal guests at the Sultan of Brunei's big birthday bash is Princess Basma of Jordan, the younger sister of the late King Hussein and the aunt of the current king, Abdullah II.  She's the woman all the way on the left of this photo.

Basma's tiara is a really interesting diamond piece -- from a distance, it almost looks like a floral tiara,  but up close, it's more of an intricate abstract pattern of circles and swirls, with a top element that almost looks like the Prince of Wales feather emblem.  It's stunning!  (And Basma has grown her hair out a bit in recent years, which sets of the tiara really well.  Love it!)
