Visit to Canada - Royal York Hotel: HM The Queen
Hooray! It's a Tiara Alert after all tonight for Lil!

You crafty, tiara-mad hatters have already recognized this one as the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland Tiara -- AKA my FAVORITE tiara of all time. This is what a tiara should look like. Amazing!
But can we talk about something else here, briefly? And by something, I mean the crystal-encrusted maple leaves running all the way up and down one of HM's sleeves!

SPECTACULAR! I feel like, somehow, some way, Queen Margrethe may have had a hand in this awesome-ness! (After all, no one runs with a theme better than Daisy!) It's like a big fat Swarovski-encrusted love letter to Canada!

Dear Ella:
You will love this, I think, but QE2 wore the same dress for a state visit to Trinidad and Tobago some months back, with another detachable national emblem.
You can see the photo of the dress (which I didin't like, as you will see) at http://repeatingislands.com/2009/11/28/queen-dons-caribbean-emblem-dress/
I apologize in advance, since what I wrote is a bit hard on poor QE2, but from a Caribbean post-colonial perspective, the queen is a bit of a problematic figure.
But do check out the dress, as it has been refashioned, as I had predicted, for her visit to Canada. I do agree it looks much better with the Canadian emblems.
Enjoy,
Lisa
Guess who's back... it's Thrifty Lil!
I'd spotted it was the T&T dress remodelled, and I concur, much more successfully this time. Previously the embellishments looked like patchwork done by some acid tripped hippy, but these are much better - and they break up the usual nightie effect when HM goes for the all white look. I rather like the assymetrical silver sleeve.
Nice to see her getting the girls out too. Which sounds wrong, but let's not follow that line of enquiry eh...
A beautiful ensemble, and so tastefully embroidered (this time!)What I am really delighted to see is what could well be described as the 'most favourite' brooch of Her Late Majesty, Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother, here worn in it's full form.
The Queen wore it for church on Sunday, and for the Maundy Service in April, in a shortened version - minus the diamond 'swag' from which is suspended the tear-drop pearl. It somehow looks unbalanced without it's pretty 'dangly bits'! This brooch was made for Queen Victoria, and is still doing sterling royal service over a century later.
What greatly intrigues me is the new maple leaf 'spray' brooch, worn twice during this tour (once upside down!).
Does anyone have any information on this brooch? Was it a gift during the past ten days? (It was worn for the visit to Pinewood Studios.)
That is just the most gorgeous tiara - it's SO perfect! And the sleeves are wonderful. I wonder if applique's what she does to keep her occupied on long flights?? Maybe she'll be unpicking it on the way home!
I wish HM would wear some color in the evening. Lately, it seems that in every single picture I see of her her at a tiara do, she's wearing white. However, I love the tiara. I think it's one of the prettiest ones ever, and from what I read, the Queen likes it very much because it's lightweight and comfortable.
Well, I am very pleased to be proved wrong for once! I love a good tiara, but I juts wish she would bust another one out of the vaults every so often, such as the Grand Duchess Vladimir Tiara, which is my personal favourite (ever the emerald whore), thoiugh it's probably very heavy. Anyway, whinge over - a tiara's still a tiara after all. It's still fabulous. And it's nice to see some collet diamonds around her neck. Just imagine have some of those lying about!
I too noticed the frock was a repeat from the T&T tour, and I must say it looks stunning here. The idea was truly inspired. Well done, Ma'am!
@ Richard - The brooch was one of the Queen Mother's which HM seems to have taken to wearing of late. It's actually quite old, having been a gift to Queen Victoria in 1887 for her Golden Jubilee. The Queen Mother wore it a hell of a lot, though good ol' 'Lil here tends to wear it without the pendant during the day, so it's nice to see that make a reappearance. Here's a nice view of it on the Queen Mother.
Sorry, Richard, completley misread you (damn speed reading!) No clue on the maple one, sorry.
Awesome! It's one of my most favorite tiaras too. She looks simply beautiful and regal and royal! Love her jewelry as well.
Looks like everyone noticed the dress.

Love the tiara!
But the dress... That's just scrapbooking.
Sigh what a sparkler. Fit for a queen. You know, I don't think any other current queen could pull this off. Only Lil!
