Prince Nikolaos's Wedding: HRH Princess Nikolaos of Greece and Denmark

We've officially got a new princess in our midst, hatters!

She started the day as a "Miss," and now she's a "Royal Highness" -- and every HRH needs a tiara, right?  For her big day, Tatiana's new mother-in-law, Queen Anne-Marie, lent her the Antique Corsage Tiara.  We've seen this tiara several times on the blog -- lately it's been worn by Princess Theodora, but it was also the tiara worn by Marie-Chantal on her wedding day.  For a refresher on the history of this impressive piece of jewelry refashioning, head over here!

While glancing through photos though, I noticed that there was something strange about the tiara in some of the pictures -- it looks like there's fabric stuck behind it.  Compare with this picture from earlier in the day (when she was still just plain Tatiana Blatnik):

Nothing behind the tiara there, right?

But then I realized: it's not fabric, it's rose petals that were showered on the newlyweds!  A few must have gotten stuck behind the tiara.  You can see them here:

Aww!  (The veil looks great, too, BTW -- love how it coordinated with the little lace bolero she wore to cover her shoulders in the cathedral.)  Congratulations, Nikolaos and Tatiana!

She looks so beautiful and I loved her wedding gown. She looked absolutely blissful.

Didn't Princess Maria-Olympia wear a floral wreath as a flowergirl?

  3. Eliza says on :

Oops, sorry for the double post.

  4. Ella says on :

She did, Eliza! She'll be up on the site in a little while.

In the meantime, I've put up a page of pictures from the wedding at RWEK. Enjoy! :)

  5. Annie says on :

She looks so lovely. What a beautiful bride. I absolutely love the tiara..anything with diamonds and pearls!

  6. Jake says on :

One of the best-looking brides I've seen in ages (whether royal or not). Tatiana is simply stunning and I wish her and Nikolaos nothing but the best. And I know this is a hattery blog, but did anyone check out those earrings?

  7. tom says on :

she sure is beautiful... i wonder if because she works for diane von furstenburg she gets all her clothes for free maybe including her weidding dress!?!!? i wonder what tiara she will be given to keep in the end!?!?

  8. Arthur says on :

The bride does look beautiful, but I have to say that the bridesmaid's dress on Princess Maria Olympia is waaaaaaaay too short, especially for church. The other childrens' outfits look very appropriate; however, someone screwed up the length measurement for Maria-Olympia.

  9. Eliza says on :

@ Tom contrary to what I thought, this dress was actually designed by Angel Sanchez. According to his website, angelsanchez.com, he was born in Venezuela, so it totally makes sense why Tatiana would choose this designer. (She was born in Venezula).

  10. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

She is gloriously beautiful. Just the best! This is picky but I would like her bouquet a little smaller. Marie-Chantal looks totally great in her unexpected dress. Just a beautiful wedding!!!!!

  11. JamesB says on :

What a lovely and low key wedding (by Royal standards) and everyone looks like they are having a great time.

I think I like the dress... it's just a lot of lace, I cannot help thinking some of it should have been plain, as it looks a bit heavy in places. And the tiara sits atop her hair rather than in it.

But she is so beautiful that she just looks damned stunning, so my nitpicking must end!

  12. Ky Person says on :

I think that's one of the prettiest dresses I have seen in a long time. It's not as pretty as Princess Victoria's, but almost. The tiara is stunning. It was placed perfectly and it looked so good with the veil. When you are wearing a small tiara for the wedding, placement counts. Mette Marit and Claire of Belgium both had small wedding tiaras that were perfectly placed. Princess Mary is a good example of a wedding tiara that wasn't placed well and got lost in the veil.

  13. Angelo says on :

She does indeed look marvelous. The reason that she is carrying a big ball bouquet is because Tatiana has broad hips and while she is lovely to behold she is not a slender girl and carries a lot of weight. Princess Theodora is way too be for her dress. Also, I hate the Las Vegas dresses on the bridesmaids. The bottom of the dress is beautiful but the tops are awful. There is one bridesmaid in green and she has her bleached hair up and long gold earclips. This girl should be entered in the Westminster Kennel Club Show for Best in Breed. But the wedding is beautiful and I loved everything about it.

  14. Alice of Teck and Athlone says on :

The placement of the Antique Courage tiara is so perfect. She looks beautiful. Prince Nicholas looks like he got a little too much sun and he's a little spotty. He is well it middle age now and older people don't tan smooth like we do when we're young. But they certainly look happy. Queen Anne-Marie wore the same pearls and cross necklace to the funeral of the Queen Mother. She has an orthodox style cross too she was wearing when she arrived in Greece. I don't know WHAT went wrong with the bridesmaid's dresses after the beautiful design of the dress. Diane von Fusternburg (I forget how to spell it!) was the mother-in-law of Marie-Chantel's sister who married Alexander, Diane's son but they split because of his romancing other ladies. I think that the lace on the jacket that Tatiana wears is so beautiful that this really does make it the most beautiful gown. Sure, she is a bit fat but I still say beautiful and her make-up is flawless.

  15. Jkrantz says on :

A question for everyone else. On another site I saw photographs of the guests at the wedding. Queen Margarethe of Denmark has something clipped to the hem of her jacket. It looks like an employee badge, or a key card for a hotel room. Is this a high-tech wedding invitation? Or is it really a key card, and she couldn't be bothered to bring a purse? I didn't see this on anyone else.

  16. Sir Tom says on :

She made such a stunning bride. Really beautiful. I love that tiara, though I kind of agree with James that it's slightly perched above her hair. But I'm glad it wasn;t lost in the veil. The dress is lovely, and I think the amount of lace must be a greek thing.
Looks like everyone had a belting time.

  17. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

Why do you erace messages? Is this a club and not anyone can belong?

  18. tom says on :

@ella could we put the duke of feira's wedding on the clock? i can't remember if that is how his title is spelt but he frequently appears in vanity fair

  19. Margaret says on :

Lovely bride....looking forward to some more pictures:)

  20. Robin J says on :

    a very beautiful bride indeed!

the dress is quite similar to the one Marie wore at here wedding (to Joachim of Denmark), isn't it?

Q: Is it just a coincidence that royal brides chooses to wear tiaras with pearls or does the pearls mean something?

  21. maggie says on :

She does look amazing - I like her dress, it's not over-the-top Princess-y, but it's still a bit formal. And the lace on the veil and dress match perfectly. The tiara is lovely - she showed it off a lot better than Marie-Chantal.

  23. Natascha says on :

@JKrantz: it looks like the key card from her hotelroom... no idea either, but it does look stupid...
@Robin: I have always been told that wearing pearls on your wedding day brings bad luck, as pearls stand for tears...

  24. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

I'm sorry Ella! My computer did something funny. When Ruth Countess of Rosenberg's funeral photos were on this wonderful site there were some remarks about Queen Margarethe II needing better undergarments and the posts are still on the site. So I guess I can say that if you look at CBS News wedding photograhs posted today on the web you can clearly see that Tatiana's beautiful gown is insuffiently lined. Not on top because she is flat chested and always wears her dresses padded. However one can see right through the skirt of all the pics when she is standing most of all the pics of her exciting the church with Prince Nicholoas. I enjoyed it but I'm not certain this was her intention.

  25. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

Sorry Ella! But.look at the CBS News Photos and look at the third photo for example. Not only can one CLEARLY see Tatiana's panties but one can see the garter belts and then her white stocking (not pantyhose, see?)

  26. Annie says on :

I love the third picture of them kissing. I especially liked that Niko closed his eyes as well....very romantic in my opinion. Kissing with eyes wide open just doesn't seem genuine. Perhaps it just me though.

  27. Eliza says on :

@Cowhide10gallon- I saw those photos too, but I just looked again and I think that it's just the lighting in the photos.

  28. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

Ella it is the lighting on the dress which is how you can see through it. You can even see the garter belts. Before she enters the church in daylight you can see through the beautiful dress too. Call it lighting but the fact is you can see through the dress.

  29. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

Look at photo 7 taken before wedding and you can see her panties. Maybe it is intentional. Like Barbara Striesand's jumpsuit she wore to the Oscar's for What's Up Pussycat. Maybe she wanted her underwear to show. One can even see the lace edge on the heam of the panties and the top of the silk stockings has a lace design on it also.

  30. Ella says on :

That's more than enough on the underwear topic, Cowhide10Gallon. Let's move on to something else.

  31. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

    Sorry I said something true!

  32. maggie says on :

Billed Bladet has a photo which clearly shows that Tatiana dress has at least two layers as well as the lace overlay, and it looks like Duchesse satin, one of the heaviest guages of fabric. It's no more see through than I am!

  33. Eliza says on :

Yikes, I don't like those shoes very much at all! I'm not a fan of that kind of shoe with the tie.

  34. Mandy says on :

I must confess although I love the dress I don't like the lace bolero. I didn't like the lace sleeves on Marie's dress either so I think it's just something I just don't like. Otherwise I thought she looked compeltely gorgeous. She is a stunning woman with a wonderful smile.

Tatiana and Nikolaos look so happy together. Such a lovely wedding.

It's a pity the bridesmaids' dresses had such dreadful tops.

  35. Ursula says on :

I think the lace bolero is a great idea. That way you can wear a strapless dress and have something to put over your shoulders for the ceremony if it's in a church.

  36. Ky Person says on :

Back in the 19th century, dressmakers and designers used to make wedding dresses that could be converted to a court dress. Court dresses had to be white and have a decolltage. In church, the bride's arms and shoulders needed to be covered - so the dressmaker would design the gown with a deep collar or small jacket that could be removed after the wedding. After her wedding trip, the bride could wear the dress for her court presentation.

  37. Kikky says on :

I love the lace bolero myself, but I bet it was scratchy in her underarm. That could be why she was tugging at it - I bet it was rubbing her the wrong way, literally and figuratively. Her dress itself I would have preferred with a bit less lace. It was a little too "little girl princess" for my taste. But she was beautiful and I loved the way her hair in particular looked.

  38. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

MaggIe, first, that I'd not a Duchese satin lining under the dress. Second, you don't have to be able to see through a fabric to see the pantyline. Any fool knows that. Duchese satin is a heavier fabric depending upon the particular weave because there are thousands of different Duchese Satins but it is by no means one of the heavier guages of fabric. There are enbroidered fabrics, wools, metalics, crepe de chins, velvets and damaskes which are twice as heavy as a Duchese satin and all are used for wedding gowns. A lighter cotton fabric doesn't catch on the foundation the way satin does. When bright lights shine on the shimmery silk of a lighter Duchese satin it highlighted the undergarments.

  39. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

However,Maggie,I have little doubt that it is impossible to see through you.

  40. Ella says on :

Seriously, enough. This topic has been done to death, and I don't appreciate the personal attacks on other commenters.

This blog is supposed to be a place where we talk about the ridiculous hats royals wear, not about their undergarments, and not about other posters. Don't make me act like an angry mother here!

  41. jamesB says on :

Here here! Let's step away from the pants! Come on matey this is just silly fun...

  42. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

Thank you for taking up for me Ella. I have never been attacked like that. If we are going to limit ourselves to hats I just know that the dresses are always discussed. And all of the chat was about her dress. I'll never mention it again if I may make the reasonable observation that the lovely Tatiana is a royal bride and a fashion industry pro. Her gown was designed by an internationally famous S. American designer and everyone knew there would be television lights. He should have checked to make certain this wouldn't happen. Plenty of people are talking about it. I LOVE this website. E

  43. Cowhide10Gallon says on :

I said "I can't see through you" in response to a sarcastic remark made by the commenting person! I meant literally that I know I can't see through someone. It wasn't personal.
