Stortinget Gala: HM The Queen of Norway
Not in love with this canary yellow on Sonja -- yellow is just such a hard color to pull off, isn't it? -- but am full-on in love with her tiara! It's actually the same tiara she wore to last year's Stortinget gala -- Queen Josephine's Diamond Tiara. It's so light and yet so regal at the same time!

I don't object to the yellow oddly enough - normally I do, maybe it's just my screen, but I think she looks OK. Or perhaps it's just relief that it's not the Gravadlax of Doom again.
That is a really stunning tiara - it really gives her a lift, adding hight but not weight. And the necklace and earrings are pretty fabulous too
And the maltese cross pin holding HM's sash is a tiara element from Queen Maud nee Connaught.
Good catch, Matthew! We've seen Sonja wear the base of the Maltese tiara, but I don't think we've seen the crosses anywhere on the blog till now. I love how inventive the royal ladies get with their jewel collections.
She really is beautiful isn't she? Anyone have any pictures of her younger? The yellow isn't my favorite, but the dress is very elegant on her.
Oh wow. I just love this yellow on Sonja. It could have gone so wrong, but it really works on her. And I'm still in love with this tiara. It's so elegant.
@ Matthew/Ella: Here's Queen Maud's Maltese Tiara in several forms. I too love how creative the European's are with jewellery. We haven't really seen the like over here since Queen Mary, sadly.

Sir Tom, Thank you for your link...I didn't know that the crosses could be grouped in a row of three right in front...now I know why the English refer to some tiaras as "fenders." In the US, Fender is a brand of electric guitar, so for many, that metaphor is lost on us.
I love the yellow too - it's out there enough to be very 'only Sonia', but not too mad. I like. And the tiara is one of my faves of the lot. Unlike the Maltester when they crosses are all worn... it's just so lopsided.
This tiara is awesome! I bet I bet I'd have to wear sunglasses if I ever went near the tiara!

It is a very difficult colour to pull off, but I think Sonja did it!
I would have liked her dress much more if it were, say, blue. Her arms look like they're covered with fried eggs.
I love the tiara, though.
I don't despise the dress, but I can't really see it terribly well. I'd like to see a picture where she doesn't blend in with the background as much so I can form a clearer opinion. The tiara is scrumptious. This or HM QEII's Girls tiara are vying for my very favorite look.
