It's been a while since we've had some good bling around here, hasn't it? We've got two lovely tiaras on the heads of the Norwegian royal ladies here: MM is wearing the Diamond Daisy Tiara that she first wore on her wedding day, and Princess Astrid is wearing a tiara that's new to the blog!
It's the Vasa Tiara, an heirloom that came into the Norwegian collection when it was given in 1929 to Astrid's mother, Crown Princess Märtha, as a wedding gift from the City of Stockholm. Astrid herself owns the tiara now -- it was part of the legacy left to her after her mother's death -- but it will apparently be returned to the Norwegian royal vaults after her death. It's a beautiful piece, with intricate swirls and circles of diamonds. Lovely!

She really knows how to do her hair for the big events. She looks terrific - wish we could have got a better angle of the daisies nestled in there, but stunning nonetheless.
And a new tiara!! *happy dance*
Mette-Marit is just the perfect Nordic princess. She is absolutely stunning. I just wish we had a slightly better view of this gorgeous tiara.
Astrid's looks equally smashing.
Is it possible to get a closeup of the Vasa tiara? Thanks.
MM does give fabulous tiara hair doesn't she... just lovely. And I just love batty old Aunt Astrid, she is sooo sweet (unlike her old bat of a sister Ragnhild!). Would love to see a closie uppie of the Vase too. Does it double as a flower recepticle when not in use at swanky diners?
That's "Vasa". That's the family name of the last Swedish Swedish royal family.
Here's a few close-ups of the Vasa: http://www.angelfire.com/la3/lone_mor/kongelige_a_vasa.html I really love this tiara! It sort of looks like Princess Claire's new one.
Mette-Marit looks gorgeous here. I love love love the dress (it's a repeat: pre-wedding stuff in Sweden, I believe). Her hair is stunning, although I'd love for her to show the tiara off a bit more.
Oh damnit, Vasa it is. Silly me!
A couple of notes on Princess Astrid: She's wearing the Order of St. Olav on a sash of the width worn by males (compare to MM) and it appears she's wearing three Royal Family Orders (presumably Haakon VII, Olav V, and Harald V).
Has anyone ever noticed a female royal anywhere wearing a sash in the male width? Granted, some orders (such as the Garter) use the same width for men and women.
O/T, when is the Queen going to give Camilla a royal order? She gave her the QEII royal family order before the Commonwealth HOG meeting a while back, but nothing since. Only Princess Michael is less honored.
Does anyone know the significance of the red collars on the jackets the British royal men are wearing at this dinner? I've seen Charles and Phillip wearing them previously. But in the footage for this event, I didn't see any non-royal men wearing them.
P.S. I loved the Queen's necklaces. In the video you could see the sparkle from the diamonds set amidst the pearls. I wondered if she avoided her royal family orders because of the islamic avoidance of images of people (but then I saw the ginormous gilded statue of St. George slaying the dragon used as a centeriece).
A good new that the Vasa is coming back to the Royal family.
The Norwegian royal ladies have the best tiara hair in the world. MM has really come into her own, especially at gala events. She is lovely. Princess Astrid is lovely too - I love her dress, and the Vasa tiara. I hope MM gets to wear it soon.
Love the Vasa tiara! Anyone know the connection to the Vasa family or the history of it? Any connection to the 16th century Vasa's? I read somewhere there was a tiara with some jewels originally belonging to Cecilia Gustavsdotter Vasa (1540-1627) but haven't been able to find the info again since.
