How fortuitous that HM wore a hat I'd rather ignore (Peach Fuzz, hmph) to Westminster Abbey on a day I'm thinking a lot about that particular church! Peach Fuzz is a lot less offensive when I'm paying much more attention to amazing views like this one...

... to get myself psyched up for the royal wedding that will take place here on April 29th! I knew the Abbey was the best choice for the big day -- so exciting! I mean, how beautiful will Kate's wedding dress look in these surroundings?

Only about a hundred and fifty days to go! I've updated the royal wedding countdown clock accordingly. Hooray! ![]()

Wow. Phil's not looking so hot in that first picture. I know he's pushing 90, but still.
That (and the peach fuzz) aside, Westminster is definitely the best place for the wedding. It's absolutely gorgeous and one of my must-see places when I finally get to London.
this must be going to be a small wedding if it at the abbey Diana was at St Pauls buy hers was huge. And the dress.
The peach fuzz needs to be retired. I like it, always have... but it's overdone. She really does work her winter clothes to death (very good Ma'am... recession, blah blah, blah) but her summer ones seem to get one or two outings and then disappear (boo, profligate Liz).
I digress. So chuffed we have a date - and a four day weekend (sorry you non UK types!) I'm booking the bunting now! The prefect location too - much better for this than St Pauls imho.
Now... of course the next thing we need to know is - will it be a traditional royal wedding (11am start, hats) or more like the recent ones (4pm start, fascinators, or gasp, no hats)... Or will they go fully European (and go for broke with the tiaras!) Guess which one I want... ?!
I've defended this in the past, and I still like it, but a new ensemble would be nice, Liz.
And I'm so glad they've chosen Westminster. So much nicer than St. Paul's which is beautiful, but the Charles and Diana connotations, coupled with Christopher Wren's opulence, would just not be right. I've always thought of Westminster as a bit cosier, and it has more conections with royalty. And I'm a sucker for gothic every time.
I'm praying with every fibre of my being for a tiara do. Plus, Liz wouldn't be able to wear white for once. But it'll be hats. We really should take our cues from Europe once in a while.
But huzzah for a date (and a four day weekend)!
Sorry, but I'm over this ensemble, Your Majesty.
On to the wedding: I really love St. Paul's, but can appreciate the majesty and convenience of Westminster too. Plus, avoiding the whole Charles and Diana past is a smart thing to do. But I'm rooting for a huge chapeau affair as I find hats more creative than tiaras. Either way, I think I'm gonna buy a new trilby just for the occasion! (which I'm totally taking as a holiday even though I live in the States)
I don't think I've ever cared for this. I think the color washes her out, especially in this light. Maybe she's not trying? Looks like the seats are very empty. I thought this was the General Synod. I pity the poor Archbishop, he has a tough row to hoe in a thankless job. Doesn't help when your clergy are acting like children in full view of the public.
Ugh, I'm starting to think of this outfit as my hattery arch-nemesis. It just keeps coming back!!
I'm glad that the wedding will be at the Abbey - beautiful though the Cathedral is, the Abbey to me has a greater sense of history and yet has a intimate quality as well.
And four day weekend!! *high-fives James & Sir Tom*
Looks like it's two four-day weekends in a row. I know that I'd take vacation if that was the case.
The Scottish first minister actually consulted with his cabinet as to whether we should get the holiday because it's an election here the following week. Memo to Mr Salmond; denying Scotland a four day weekend when England gets one - that would not have done you many favours with the electorate...
(And yes!! It'll be a three day week!! *throws hat in the air*)
All right, Lil, we get it how frugal you are. It's time to ditch this outfit, which flatterith thou not. It was bright and refreshing on a rainy day, when you wore it to West Newton Church, but it's clearly past its prime. How about a more sophisticated, tailored, look.
Sigh, looks like I'll be taking vacation the Friday! Don't you just wish that they'd give all the Commonwealth countries a holiday? Time change, I suppose.
On to the Peach fuzz. HM, please retire it!!! It's so ugly!
Now- what are the chances of it being a tiara wedding? I'd love it to be a tiara wedding, like most!
Oh, my, the Queen has such a glum look on her face! Is she casting an eye over the Abbey and mentally fitting in the guests for Prince William's nuptials?? Hope she considers the site large enough, lol! And, normally, I'd think the peach tone would suit HM's complexion, but she looks absolutely drained in this color. I do think she and the DOE need to rest and take it easy for a bit.
And I envy all of you in England your 4-day holiday for the royal nuptials! I'll be taking off that day myself, not only for the wedding, but also because April 29 is my birthday. Maybe HM will loan me a special tiara when I watch the events on TV....
What an awesome birthday gift, Patricia -- a royal wedding! That's so cool! (And welcome to the blog, BTW -- we're glad you could join us!)
Thank you so much, Ella! I'm very excited by the wedding taking place on my birthday and was so happy when I heard the news this morning. I'll be parked in front of the TV nice and early, that for sure! I can't tell you how entertained I've been by your wonderful forum and all the great contributors to it. Please keep it up! I'm so glad to have taken the plunge.
Correction - "that's"
I'd give anything to see Queen Alexandra's old Rundell tiara brought out of the vaults.

I think this elaborate tiara with a simple gown like the one Princess Victoria wore would be lovely.
I really doubt that we'll see a tiara wedding like the Swedish one - that's not the British way.
I hate to throw a damper on things, but I can't see a tiara on Kate. She doesn't seem like the tiara type, although I guess it's tradition to wear one. Maybe they'll do something different. I just hope she doesn't lose control of things, as she has a nice conservative style that should serve her well (think Princess Grace, updated a little).
