Nobel Prize King's Dinner 2010: HM The Queen of Sweden

It's day two of the Nobel festivities in Sweden, which means it's time for the annual King's Dinner (and more tiaras!).  Silvia pulled out the rather magnificent Nine-Prong Diamond Tiara (also called Queen Sophie's Diamond Tiara) for the night, but I admit to being rather underwhelmed with the look after the glam of yesterday.  Thoughts?

I'm not overly fond of this tiara - I don't know why, but it makes me think of sea-monsters, like a big tentacle-ly thing on her head. It has a lot of open space in it - I think I prefer the fortress look! She did look a lot more fabulous last night. this ensemble looks like a very ostentatious nightie.

I'm OK with the tiara, but the dress is not flattering. She needs a fuller skirt.

Excuse me for being specific about the royal anatomy, but the dress hugs the hips and then just flops mid-thigh and drapes oddly to the floor bunching between the legs. Is the Queen going for the mermaid look with the trident-like tiara, sea creature squiggles on the gown and a fishtail train? The color also leaves me unimpressed. You can tell I'm not fond of this look.

Yeah the frock's not amazing. It just does so little fore her. But I still love the tiara - it's one of my all time faves. It's just so damned bling and fabulous!

  5. Patricia says on :

I really loved the fortress tiara and sapphire necklace worn earlier; those rocks rocked!!

Forgive me appearing from lurker-dom (yes Ella you have lurkers)and being so negative but this really is Wonderwoman meets Splash. Truly awful.

This dress makes her look so old and I've always thought this tiara is a bit alien-y.

    cobwebby...pass

The dress is all wrong, but I've always enjoyed this tiara. Its quirky but extremely blingy!

Last night was so much better. The dress is very Joan Collins in Dynasty, methinks. And I've never liked this tiara. It's all too Miss World for me.

I have no issues with the tiara, although compared to some Silvia could have pulled out of the vault, it's a little ho-hum (is that even possible? For a tiara to be ho-hum?).

I have issues with the dress. It looks like she has some static cling going on around the legs. Also what on earth is sticking out on the left side around her waist and hips? It looks like something's coming undone there, or her attendant missed a few buttons or something.

That's a really cute little purse though.

  12. Patricia says on :

@ Kikky - it looks like those bits might be trim since you can see it going down her train.

  13. Lolita says on :

At first glimpse I thought she was wearing a night gown. Thetiara is OK, but not much more.

  14. Kikky says on :

I can see the lace trim going down the sides and bottom of the train, but it seems to me to be unrelated to whatever is sticking out in the midsection. The lace is semi-transparent. That around the waist and hips (and there's also a small lump right under her armpit too) is more substantial fabric, or so it looks to me. Has anyone see a picture of the back of this dress?

I'm a fan of this tiara, but in a different context. Not liking the overall look here. The dress looks like something Queen Eliz would wear, and she's nearly 20 years older than Silvia.

  16. KyPerson says on :

Meh. I love the tiara, but the dress makes Sylvia look heavy and she's not heavy at all.

  17. Cece says on :

I like the tiara-it is so tiaraish. But this is such a disappointing color after the richness of last night's dress. And all the embellishments, fuzzy bits sticking out-too much stuff and not enough shape.
