The Swedish king and queen certainly have been busy lately, haven't they? First, the wacky Estonian state visit, and this evening, a celebration of the 200th anniversary of the Grand Order of the Amaranth in Malmö. Whew!
Silvia is wearing here, of course, the Napoleonic Amethyst Tiara and the rest of the matching parure. The color of the gems is just gorgeous, but I still don't like the flat appearance of the tiara itself. I do like it better worn with her hair down like this, though:

I do get your point on this one - it is a bit flat, but it's more of a circlet than a tiara, and the stones are so big, there's not a massive amount taht could be done with them. The frock is great - Silv at her regal best this is.
I actually don't mind the Tiara, but I think Victoria looks better in the Amethysts than Silvia does. However all the purple and the order is so queeny I can't help but love it.
Gorgeous color. Has anyone seen a full-length picture of her dress? I'm not sure I like the lacy bits but want to see the overall picture to decide for sure. <3 the color though!
Super delicious colour on Her Majesty and one of the more successful outings of the tiara. Wearing the hair down seems to give it a nice balance. I wld love to see Victoria trying out this tiara again with some mad new hairstyle.
Fabulous match of rocks and dress - and I do like this circlet. She looks stunning
It think it is spectacular from the front, not quite perfect from the sides, but that is getting unreasonably picky when dealing with historic pieces that involve hairstyles changes through time. The purple is that perfect purple that takes your breath away. The dress would look silly on anyone but a queen, and she looks beautiful. Love the necklace too. Does anyone else feel like we are getting a present when these amazing jewels are brought out?
The jewels are stunning, but James is right in saying that it is a circlet, and there's not really much you can do with them. She does look all the better for having her hair down, though. Silv really does know how to work these big rocks!
Yeah, I feel like this should be sort of entwined in the wearer's hair- but to do that you'd have to get a beehive! No, I really just don't like this tiara.
I love this tiara. The stones are such a beautiful purple, and I am delighted when the Swedish ladies are photographed wearing them. I wonder this tiara would look like against Princess Madeline's blonde hair...
Yes, far better with the hair down! It's lovely with this dress. And it is amazing that it doesn't look gaudy, because it easily could...
And thanks for all you do. Sorry that some poor sport has made it hard for someone like you who gives so much time and is SO entertaining and smart!
I would really be in love with this tiara if it had height and layers to it; otherwise, it really resembles a necklace transformed into a circlet. But I'd never say no if Sil offered it to me; I drool over jewels and especially headlight-sized amethysts of that deep lustrous tone. And, oh, those earrings and necklace are gorgeous! And the tiara does look lovely from a distance rather than close up where you can see the base. Seeing her rock in this sumptuous purple gown, I can almost forget her visit to the stables outfit with Madame Emissary from the ice planet Estonia.

which, by the way, I LOVE with the amethysts. Sometimes it's too matchy matchy to do the jewels the same as the apparel, but for me, this one works.
Wo0nderful! Smashing! Delicious! All of the above! Drool, drool, covet . . .
I agree. Very queenly. And that looks like a crown to me.
I was starting to worry about Silvia's style after those crazy outfits during the Estonia visit, but she's definitely redeemed herself here! She looks absolutely beautiful. I bet Victoria, Carl and Madeleine are proud to have such a gorgeous mum
love the tiara! but i do think it would look better with the hair up.
I never like framework showing on tiaras. This one should
have hair brushed up around the frame or be set into curly hair, well,.....somewhat like my own! Hint, hint.
Love the necklace.
If I remember correctly, this tiara is a converted necklace. I like it very much - I love amethysts and these are so beautiful. I can't help but think if the court jeweler could find some way to hide the tiara frame it would look better. Every time I've seen this tiara, the frame is showing and it detracts from the appearance. If there was some way to hide it with diamonds that would be an improvement.
I'd love to see it on Madeline, but she really doesn't have the proper tiara hair to do it justice. I'll be it would look stunning on Queen Sonia of Norway.
Patricia: It really IS a necklace, converted to a circlet! The necklace is really two bracelets put together and I think the pendant is a brooch. Silvia had a frame made for the necklace in the late 70's so it could be worn as a circlet and I don't think anyone has used it as a necklace since...
Last time I know it was used as a necklace was by the kings oldest sister Margareta at the pre-wedding concert for the king and Silvia.
She is stunning in the royal purple! So appropriate for her!
Much as I hate pouffy hair, the tiara would look great with pouffy hair (yes, that's a technical term!).
She looks so beautiful in purple!
Thanks for the link to the full-length picture of the dress. I've decided the lacy bits are ok. Still frothing over the luscious color of the dress and rocks. Seeing the frame here isn't ideal, but it beats the living tar out of seeing the guts of Sophie of Wessex' tiara each time she wears it.
Stunning.Everything. Just stunning.
This. Tiara. IS. Stunning!
