Order of the Elephant New Year's Court: HRH Princess Marie of Denmark
New Year's Day means the start of the New Year's Courts in Denmark! First up: a Tiara Alert from Princess Marie...

No tiara surprises here: it's the Diamond Floral Tiara, the only tiara so far that Marie has access to. This is the seventh (!) time she's worn it since I started including European royals on the blog -- surely that's a record! (And surely it means that, Joachim, it's time to pony up for a new sparkler for your lovely bride!)
I love this dove gray color on Marie -- so pretty -- but I wonder if the asymmetrical neckline was the best choice for the occasion. It's flattering and interesting, but it makes the Order of the Elephant collar look a little wonky!

That is the first time I really, really like Marie's look. Love the dress (but I always like grey), the tiara, the hair (so shiny), the smile, the earrings, the black fur, the fact that she's not wearing a necklace on top of the Elephant one.... Wow, really love everything! (Well, except for the purse maybe.)
Happy New Year to everyone! This blog has been a great discovery in 2010 for me. Thanks, Ella.
PS This is going to be one great royal year. Cannot wait for a first glimpse of the Danish twins. My bets are on two girls.
She really has got it pretty much right on this occasion. The dress has a bit more structure than her usual glorified nightie confections, and the tiara looks fab on the very wonderful up-do. Shame about the chain of elephants looking a bit skew-whiff, but she actually looks very princess-y on this occasion.
Meh, same old tiara (I really shouldn't moan where incredibly expensive gems are concerned). It's high time she was given a new on to play with. It still looks beautiful, however - I don't know why, but floral ones always seem to work (except Lil's Burmese Ruby mostrosity).
The frock is a divine colour, but the neckline could use a little work. It's not quite right.
All in all, a pass, but could slightly improve.
I think we're all getting a bit jaded when we start seeing too much of a good thing, even a priceless tiara that we'd probably give our right arm to own! But I also believe that Marie needs to spice up her tiara life a bit; too bad Joachim didn't give her a new one for Christmas from the vaults to mix it up more. I really like this tiara, actually, even better than Mary's wedding tiara IMO. And her tiara hair works so well, too. But maybe it's just me, but I feel that her gown could have used a bit pizzazz other than that dominating order draped around the neckline which clashes with the lovely color of the gown and the cockeyed neckline, I feel. She's got a great smile that carries everything off.
And Lilibeth's ruby tiara is awful. I keep looking at it, trying to determine what doesn't work about it that makes me dislike it so much...maybe it's that red lollipop design!
Princess Marie and her tiara are so lovely. I may whine about her lack of tiaras, but I suppose we're lucky that her one tiara is stunning.
I too have problems with the dress. It does make the Order look wonky, but take a look at the back! How weird. The dress is pretty, but not with these accessories.
The dress is beautiful with the one order at her waist, but it makes her look off kilter with the chain. I would be willing to help out and take the tiara off her hands so she can get a new one...
Perfect? No. A vast improvement over most of her past attempts? Most certainly!
Her, and the oft repeated tiara look divine.
How in the world does one manage to keep those heavy looking chains from slipping off the shoulders?
Even though her tiara is seriously overworked, I'd say she looked absolutely perfect if it weren't for the asymmetrical neckline. I particularly like the *gray* dress at an Order of the Elephant shing-ding; it's the sort of humor I'd probably enjoy, were I in her royal shoes.
I guess I'm the oddball, because I like HM's ruby-and-diamond tiara---just not on her. I think it's too big for her, and would look better on a brunette.
I think this is the only occasion when the collar of the Elephant is worn. Usually, the wearers don the star and ribbon. While I love the dress, the neckline doesn't work very well with the collar of the Elephant.
As for the tiara, I think it's one of the loveliest ones I have ever seen, but I think Marie needs a new one. It doesn't have to be a big one, but she does need variety.
The dress is actually very similiar to an orange one that C.P Mary wore to this event last year - possibly Marie's version this year is by the same designer Jesper Hovring
I can't dislike this. She looks fab. And as the wife the second son, she can really expect loads o baubles, and this tiara is such a stunner. What I do wish is that they'd adapt things a bit more, you know necklaces that convert, brooches worn as hair ornaments. Like Di used to do, but less headbandy, obv!
She looks lovely! She's not really my favorite, but if she pulled it off this well every time I would be very happy.
She looks lovely, I'm a fan of the gown. Though the off-kilter collar is driving me nutty as well Ella! I like this tiara but I feel she cld be more adventurous with it. Remove that base perhaps and where it more like Mary's ruby tiara perhaps?
I love this color on Marie, and the neckline doesn't really bother me-I think the fact that she has one arm raised and the other down makes it look worse than it is.
Found a shot of the full family picture of Frederich and Mary-including Isabella- en tutu! I had not seen the full shot before so am including the link.

I do not mind that Marie only has one tiara to wear. In fact, I like discretion. Also, that ghastly chain thing is an order; so, poor Marie has to wear it whether she wants to or not!
