State visits, of course, mean Tiara Alerts! And although I'm a little sad that CP Vic is missing out on this banquet because of her visit to Abu Dhabi, I'm so excited that Sil has busted out one of my favorite tiaras!
We last saw the Connaught Diamond Tiara on Silvia at a banquet last year, but it's also the gorgeous tiara that Madeleine wore to Victoria's wedding. (Also, I guess this clears up any question about whether Madeleine was given this tiara, after the crazy press release on the wedding day -- seems the answer is a big no.)
If you're going to do a relatively sparse tiara, this is what it should look like -- graceful and elegant. Wonderful!

It is a beautiful tiara - very elegant and graceful. Dare I be controversial and say it's lightnes of touch looked better on young Madge than her more mature, and brunette Mama. I like to see our Silv in her clonkers - like the Braganza and the nine pronger - but I nitpick. She looks regal as ever.
I'm going to break the habit of a hattery lifetime and disagree with James - I think it looks better on Silvia! It looks set into her hair better that it was on Madeleine, so you can't see the band (pet peeve #387) - and it really sparkles against her dark hair. It looks a bit more robust here.
It truly is a gorgeous tiara and Silva rocks it well!
It's a very gorgeous tiara. Simple, almost, for a tiara. But it looks great in her hair.
Looks like the dress is terrible, though.
I'm not liking whats going on here. Everything is beautiful on its own, but its just all so messy together. Tiara=Stunning. Though I may have to agree with James, this tiara definitely works better on the younger. The orders look messy and I don't like the pearls or orders with this dress. Sigh, you get a free pass card this time Silv.
Beautiful tiara! I think she could at the least have left off the pearl necklace. Maybe that would have lessoned the clutter.
I love this tiara and I also love the little brooch on the order ribbon. Normally I love pearls dearly, but I can't help think that a simple riviere would have looked better here. It's not as cluttered.
I have to agree, James, Madge has the upper hand with this one. It's still beautiful, though. Some nice diamonds would have been better than pearls. I always associate pearls with day wear, which I suppose is odd considering that real pearls can be priced higher than most gems these days. Ho hum.
