Twickenham Stadium: Miss Zara Phillips

Posted on February 26th, 2011 by Ella  |  13 Comments »

Okay, everybody, let me adjust my photo translator here ... yep, it appears that either Harry is practicing to become a bishop ("bless you, my non-royal cousin..."), or he's gently reminding Zara that she forgot to wear her matching hat to Mikey Tindall's big match!

Phew!  Good thing she'd brought it along!

Now they can be a proper double act (surely England would have had a much tougher team beating France without a little patriotic hattery from Harry and Zara).  Can't you just see these two doing a little song-and-dance after Christmas dinner at Sandringham in their matching hats?  I'd pay to see that!

Lady Katie Percy's Wedding: Miss Chelsy Davy

So hard to know whether Chelsy Davy still gets to join in on the hattery fun -- she and Prince Harry are so on-and-off, it's hard to know if she counts as a royal girlfriend sometimes or not!  But since rumor has it that they've reunited, I think we can safely feature this little fascinator.

... such as it is, anyway.  I wish Chels would try something a little crazier than black feathers and flowers for her headwear.  The girl apparently has a pretty healthy wild side -- let's put the mad in Mad Hattery, Chelsy! :)

Anglesey RNLI Lifeboat Station: Miss Kate Middleton

You guys: you have absolutely no idea how giddy I was when Kate showed up at her first official royal engagement in a hat.  Way to keep the royal hattery tradition going, Kate!  And not just any hat -- one that's a cross between a Michiko teacup saucer and a Sophie Wessex feather explosion!

The more I look at pictures of this, though, the more I like it.  The wackiness is toned down a bit by the neutral colors, and it's helping to keep the hair out of her face in the wicked Welsh wind.  (Also -- hair pulled back, everyone!  Hooray!)

Plus, there are the embellishments:

Those are Prince of Wales feathers on the larger badge -- since she's going to be a part of the Wales family, presumably -- some reports have pointed out that they're also part of the cap badge of the Welch Fusiliers.  I'm having trouble positively identifying the smaller one -- but to me, it looks like it might be a version of the RAF badge?  Thoughts?

Anyway, there was clearly some thought put into even the details of this slightly-wacky hat, which, as a hat blogger, I appreciate thoroughly!  Kate's clearly on her way to princess-hood.  She even managed to tick two royal must-dos off the list today -- sing the national anthem of a principality in its native language, and christen a ship!

Even a rubber lifeboat counts.  Well done, Your Almost Royal Highness! ;)

ETA: Here's an excellent video of the event from The Sun, which features William's speech and Kate's big christening moment.

Stockholm Palace: HM The Queen of Sweden and HRH The Crown Princess of Sweden

A major Tiara Alert from Sweden this evening!  CG, Sil, Vic, and Dan all attended an official dinner at the palace, and they brought their bling along.

Victoria's wearing the Baden Fringe Tiara -- AKA my all-time favorite fringe.  I love how it tapers down along the side of the head -- so, so gorgeous!  And Silvia, of course, is wearing the same diamond-and-sapphire fortress that she donned at this year's Nobel ceremony: the Leuchtenberg Sapphire Parure Tiara.  Still not loving it.  Leuchtenberg Sapphire fans, convince me! :)

Invicta Park Barracks: HM The Queen

While her grandson and his princess-to-be grabbed most of the royal attention, our reliable Lil was out and about, inspecting troops and getting on with her usual business.  (Poor girl looks a little tired, though, doesn't she?  Hope a nap was on the royal schedule for later in the day.)

Still love this hat -- it's one of her good black-and-bright-color chapeaux, last seen in October.  A good repe-hat! :)

King's Court First School: HM The Queen

I think it's official, hatters -- this is our Punxsutawney moment of the season!  HM has brought out her first spring-y hat, and the end of winter is nigh!  (Thank God, too, because if I get any more snow at my house, I may just lose it!)

Love this pink topper -- we saw it last in Wales in April of last year.  Very queenly.  And don't you just love the little tiara art project the kids are working on?  I think the little girl with the glittery headband is offering her expert opinion on what tiara the queen should lend Kate for the wedding...

Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HRH The Duchess of Brabant

Mathilde, I love you to pieces, but this outfit makes me dizzy.  A seriously textured fur paired with a seriously textured coat?  And is that a cossack hat?  Just ... not my favorite outfit.

Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HRH Princess Léa

I actually think this dotted veil is a nice choice for Princess Léa for this particular event.  It helps her to pay homage to the memory of her late husband, Prince Alexandre (King Albert's half-brother), but it also reflects Léa's rather quirky hattery style in general.  Thumbs up from me!

Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HRH Princess Claire of Belgium

I love this on Claire -- her features call for some seriously delicate hattery, and if you're going to go minimal, a little deconstructed ribbon headband isn't a bad choice!

Church of Our Lady of Laeken: HRH Princess Marie-Esméralda

It is really, really, really, really, really tough to see, but I think perhaps Esméralda convinced Princess Claire to loan her one of her little whimsical fascinator headbands?

(Wherever this little headband came from, it's a massive improvement over last year's look!)
