State Visit from Chile - Gala Dinner: HM The Queen of Spain

It's a fairly standard Tiara Alert out of Spain from Queen Sofia -- but we get to see her so rarely on the blog that I don't even care that she's usually in the same tiara.  This one's the Mellerio Floral Tiara ... would love to see her break out another Mellerio piece, the shell tiara, for next time!  I think it's due for another airing.

I'd like to make a comment about the dress: fantastic! Wonderful color, exquisite cut and tailoring. Next to Letizia, she looks fab.

  2. Eliza says on :

Sofia's got to have the easiest tiara hair- wash, blow dry, and stick the jewels on!

    I too love her dress.

I love this tiara, it's so pretty - I kind of wish that she and Leti had swapped though - think this might have gone better with Leti's 'deconstructed' hairdo!

She never really strikes me as an airs and graces kinda gal does our Sof, so I guess it goes that she trots the same one out again and again. It's nice though, so why not. Would like to see the fleur de lys some time soon... now that IS fierce.

    Love the dress btw.

  5. Patricia says on :

Queen Sofia does outshine Leti in this outfit. It's such a lovely soft, glowing red and perfect for her. The tiara is a knockout and she's got great hair to showcase it on. I really like this lady!

  6. Sir Tom says on :

Such a beautiful tiara, but I do wish she'd bust out a few more just for a change. I agree with James, the fleur de lys definitely needs to be seen again.
And to jump on the bandwagon, the frock is lovely.

Queen Sofia looks great and I too love the dress, but she probably ought not to stand in front of those draperies. It looks like she pulled a Scarlett O'Hara.

  8. Ky Person says on :

I've seen some posters on other boards saying that the floral tiara is too young and girlish for Sofia. Piffle I say. She looks wonderful. It doesn't show up too well in this picture, but her ruby and diamond necklace is simply beautiful.

  9. Suze says on :

What is that necklace that Sofia is wearing? It looks gorgeous! Is it new or is it a remake using her own rocks?

  10. alex says on :

It's not new Suze, it's actually an old necklace of hers that hasn't been worn in public in 30 years.

  11. Nancy says on :

I agree with the comments about the beautiful tiara and the gorgeous red dress. This is a wonderful shade of soft red to wear to a formal event in the winter. Something about firecracker red doesn't look right in March. But this red that she is wearing is regal and perfect for this season. Well done, your majesty.

  12. Jen says on :

I agree that Sofia should bust out the fleur de lys for a state visit, did she ever wear it to any of her children's weddings?

  13. Lisa says on :

I love that Tom had links to the fleur de lys! Isn't it odd to have the Spanish queen wearing fleur de lys though?

  14. scarebaby says on :

    I heart Sofia!

  15. Eliza says on :

@Lisa- No, actually, it isn't. See, the Spanish royal family is a branch of the Bourbon Royal Family, and the Bourbon crest has fleur-de-lys on it, as the Bourbons were French.
