When I first saw this, I figured it must have been spur-of-the-moment Queen's Day hattery -- like someone handed her a flower, and she stuck it in her hair.
bringing you the very best in ridiculous royal hats

Clearly Queen Cake is slightly less than amused by break dancing. Fair enough - the cake hat's a little less than inspiring, too. Maybe something a little brighter next time?

This is a LOT of pink. And this hat is NOT good. Oh, Laurentien. I can't even.

Sort of disappointed with Princess Anita's headwear on Queen's Day -- on the one hand, I'm thrilled to see one of Princess Margriet's gorgeous daughters-in-law entering the hattery stakes, but on the other hand, this is about as much hattery as Samantha Cameron wore to the royal wedding. Which is to say, not a whole lot.
Great hair, though!

Whew! About 36 hours after you slightly over-zealous hatters crashed the site under a massive traffic load, it's back up and running! Hooray!
Hats from the Cambridge wedding have already been given the Mad Hattery treatment over at the back-up site, Mad Hattery Annex, but they will be moved over here sometime this weekend. If you want to comment over there in the meantime, feel free; I'll leave those posts and link them to the ones I put here.
Finally, an announcement: because restoring the site involved upgrading its server, I'm going to run a little Mad Hattery pledge drive to hopefully help ease the cost of the upgrade. If you're a reader here, whether you comment regularly or just lurk here, please consider donating a dollar to help keep the blog going! If this site crash has taught me anything, it's that all of you love this place as much as I do, and I hope, with your help, that we can avoid any more brief catastrophes! ![]()
If you'd like to make a small donation to support the site, please click on the Paypal button below or in the sidebar. Thanks, everybody!
ETA: You hatters are unbelievably generous -- you've already donated enough to cover the cost of the upgrade! Thank you all so much! Mad Hattery will definitely live to see another day. ![]()

A hearty welcome to the official royal fold, Your Royal Highness! Kate is now officially HRH The Duchess of Cambridge -- even the Prince of Wales's website has updated her bio to reflect her new status, and you know it's real if the internet says it is! ![]()

We've got one seriously happy queen on our hands at her grandson's wedding -- loved the buttery yellow color (which I called! ha!).

One of the most beautiful royal hatters at the big wedding was also a new hatter to the blog: Princess Ameerah, wife of Prince Al-Waleed bin Talal, the nephew of the King of Saudi Arabia. Ameerah's husband is also one of the richest men in the world, so clearly he can afford to buy her a pretty hat or two. ![]()
Love this soft pink color on her -- the contrast with her dark hair is just so gorgeous, and the shape is lovely. An excellent hattery debut!

Apologies for catching another brand-new hatter, the Margravine of Baden, in what appears to be a sneeze of some sort -- the BBC cameras only focused on the Badens for a split second!
Valerie is married to Maximilian, the current head of the house of Baden (that's him on the right). He's the son of one of Prince Philip's sisters, Theodora, making him a close family relative (the Badens were seated just behind the last row of Windsors). Valerie was born a Habsburg, so she's got some serious royal connections, too.
As far as the fascinator goes, eh. But more than 60 years after Prince Philip's sisters were all barred from attending his wedding in the Abbey because of their Nazi connections, I think it's good to see that the Duke's family can now be a part of these celebrations.
