State Visit to Germany - State Banquet: HRH Princess Máxima of The Netherlands

Love the tiara (it's the insanely gorgeous Dutch Diamond Bandeau Tiara, after all!) ...

... not such a fan of the dress.  Something about the way the bust is fitted isn't quite working, I think.  It seems unfinished, maybe?

But really, in the end, it doesn't matter -- Máx always seems to shine, no matter what she's wearing!  Love this pic!  LOL! :)

I swear the trim on this evening gown reminds me of the garlands of tinsel we put on Christmas trees long long ago. This dress also strikes me as more of a ball gown than a formal dinner dress. The gal on the right of the photo in the dark column dress looks great.

I agree Nancy. It does look like tinsels, although I feel if they had taken the design under the bust and maybe placed it around her waist or something....I feel there should be something around the waist. But I love the tiara as well.

The tiara and hair are gorgeous and Max really shines but I am liking this dress even less than I liked it in New York. It is very droopy on the bust and has no shape and Im pretty certain its slightly see through.

The gal on the right is Germany's First Lady, Bettina Wulff. I love her dress. Being German myself, I actually feel a little proud... :-)

Hm, I agree with something missing around the waist maybe, but hey, Maxima just pulls off anything. She just looks FAB U LOUS.

And finally on the tiara - the size of those stones make me feel dizzy - LOVE LOVE LOVE

The tiara and hair are gorgeous as ever Max is. The dress. I kind of like it in motion. The bodice doesn't seem right though.

I still stand behind my orginal thoughts. Triple-A's went trough their mothers wardrobe before leaving and decided that this dress isn't shiny enough and decorated it with christmas garlands of tinsel to make it more princesslike as in shiny. I love Maximas hear and tiara and she does shine so I can almost overlook the dress.

I actually really love this shade on Max. I think she looks absolutely lovely in the first pic where the tinsel is hidden from sight. I agree with Tara that better tinsel placement might have helped...especially since it seems to draw attention to her bra in the second pic eeek!

Bettina did Germany proud. Out of all the outfits she sported, I think there was only one or two which I thought didn't flatter her. Well done Mrs Wulff.

  8. Sir Tom says on :

Well, diamonds are most definitely Máx's best friend. But that frock needs reworking. I'm sure the design looked nice enough, but the execution is lack something.

  9. Ellen says on :

I think Maxima's dress is gorgeous!! Absolutely flattering colour and shape. I love the "decorations"! Although I do agree that the bueste seems to be "hanging" a bit; the fit seemed to be better when she wore it in New York. Absolutely a princes dress.

Of couse the tiara and hair are sublime as well!

Adore the hair and tiara and earrings. From the neck up, it's a complete winner! From the neck down, I'm afraid it looks like a wardrobe malfunction in waiting. And yes, it does look exactly like Christmas tinsel garland. I don't like the way it calls such attention to her bust, at the same time looking weighted as if to fall down and create a fashion disaster.

Agree with all the posters here about Max's Trim-A-Tree gown. All she needs is a wand to complete the look of a fairy godmother casting spells. I do like how it flows behind her on the steps, though. But the trim underneath her bustline unfortunately accentuates that part of her anatomy, and it looked like it drooped from the top layer in a wardrobe malfunction. And you can see the faintest shadow of something around Max's abdomen - dare I say her panties??? But, oh, that bandeau tiara...I can forgive her mostly anything when she wears that! Germany's first lady is a stunning woman, and her gathered gown suits her beautiful figure marvelously.

  12. nancy says on :

Hmmm. So now we have had recently from the Dutch royals: a Guggenheim hat and a Trim-a-tree gown. What is next?

  13. Lisa says on :

The trim on the top seems to draw your attention to her bust in a non-princess way (you can't help looking directly at them when they are distinctly highlighted with sparkles).

But the TIARA! Imagine what that looked like in person! I love that it has a slight curve to it down the sides too; a subtle detail that makes it even more elegant. Doesn't Max look like she would be blast?

  14. maggie says on :

I think the tinsel underbust isn't helping the dress, and that she possibly needs a bit more robustness in the undergarments - this fabric isn't the most forgiving without a lot of structural engineering to keep everything smooth.

However, the tiara is glorious - that top shot is stunning, how amazing does she look?? Her hair is perfect

  15. PlaidLeslie says on :

From the collar bones up, I'm in love. The tiara works for Max, especially with this updo. Bravo!!

The dress is just a disaster. Who on earth thought outlining her bosom in silver spanlges was a good idea?? And then to not even have the proper undergarments on underneath that oh-so-highlighted area? It's just so very, very bad!

  16. scarebaby says on :

I wanted to see who would mention tinsel first! LOL and it was the very first post, from Nancy.

I do mostly love the shape of this gown but that doggone tinsel reminds me of a cartoon bubble saying LOOK HERE!

  17. JamesB says on :

I like Max's frock actually - she is just a Princess by nature isn't she. Those diamonds - oh those diamonds! They are mahusive, and the simple design of this tiara makes them scream even more. She looks a treat.

  18. Eliza says on :

Anyone who mentioned garland- you beat me to it! This dress is horrid, even though the colour is nice. Neck up, though? Oh my gosh, she looks so so beautiful. I love the tiara hair with this GORGEOUS tiara.

  19. Suze says on :

I love Maxima's hairstyle with this tiara and I am surprised because I did not this tiara so much at CP Vic's wedding.

  20. royal fan says on :

It's hard to have a perfect fashion week...love the tiara, the hair...hate to tinsel dress...she's really woren it before??? glad I missed that photo!

  21. KiLa says on :

Bettina Wulff looks really great, but what you don't see, is the tattoo on her right arm. She hides it most of the times under her clothes, because of this perhaps she chose an assymetric dress...
