State Visit from Luxembourg - Gala Dinner: HM The Queen of Norway

One more tiara alert from tonight's gala dinner: here's Queen Sonja in a tiara that's (sort of) new to the blog!  This is the full setting of Queen Maud's Pearl Tiara.  We've seen her in the small version before, but here she's worn it with the large front piece that completes the historical tiara.  (Er, or the replacement version of the historical tiara, anyway -- more on the Great Norwegian Tiara Heist of '93 here.)

State Visit from Luxembourg - Gala Dinner: HRH The Grand Duchess of Luxembourg

MT stepped out in one of my favorite Luxembourg sparklers for the gala dinner: Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte's Diamond Scroll Tiara, the tiara her mother-in-law wore at her wedding.  It's a gorgeous '50s tiara that somehow looks modern and antique all at the same time.  Lovely!

Ye olde Diamond Daisy Tiara yet again from MM -- love the gala dress, though!

State Visit from Luxembourg - Gala Dinner: HH Princess Astrid, Mrs. Ferner and HH Princess Märtha Louise of Norway

Ari Behn's got two princesses on his arm at this state banquet -- his wife,  Märtha Louise, on his left, wearing the King Olav's Gift Tiara, and his aunt-in-law, Astrid, on his right, wearing the stunning Vasa Tiara which once belonged to her mother, Crown Princess Märtha.  Excellent!

You guys, I think this might seriously be the best MT has ever looked.  Good proportions on the hat and the outfit, overall monochrome color, dramatic tilt of the hat's brim ... fabulous!

God love ya, Astrid, it just wouldn't be the start of a Norwegian state visit without your appearance at the welcome ceremony!  I don't even care -- this lady can wear whatever she darn well pleases.  (And it appears that what she pleases here is the Nordic cousin of Benedikte's hot pink parliamentary explosion...)

You know, sometimes I get a little bit miffed about Mette-Marit's headband hattery -- I mean, real hats aren't that hard!  And some of the bits and bobs she wears barely qualify as fascinators.  But I really like this one.  The contrast with her hair is excellent, and it's a fairly substantial piece.  Thumbs up from me!

(Also, hey, hunky Haakon, how's it going? ;)  Love that these two still hold hands during state visits, ten years on in their marriage.)

I think we've got another recent repeater from Sonja here -- the beige hat she wore for the first day of the Croatian state visit -- but she's paired it with a far more successful outfit.  Like, like, like.

This really isn't a bad hat shape on Maria Teresa, but man, pea green yellow is rarely my first choice for a successful hat color...

State Visit from the USA - State Banquet: HRH The Princess Royal

Thanks to all the wonderful hatters who e-mailed me photos and screencaps of Princess Anne in the Meander Tiara that once belonged to her grandmother, Princess Andrew of Greece, at the state banquet.  I'm lightyears behind in answering e-mail, so if you haven't heard back from me personally, please don't be offended. :)

Lovely reader Shannon sent in this screencap -- several others also linked to this photo from the Daily Mail (scroll to the bottom of the page).  An excellent tiara outing for Annie ... a low-key piece for a low-key princess, but a piece with a wonderful historical provenance nonetheless.
