State Visit from Luxembourg - Gala Dinner: HRH The Grand Duchess of Luxembourg

MT stepped out in one of my favorite Luxembourg sparklers for the gala dinner: Grand Duchess Joséphine-Charlotte's Diamond Scroll Tiara, the tiara her mother-in-law wore at her wedding.  It's a gorgeous '50s tiara that somehow looks modern and antique all at the same time.  Lovely!

This is one of my favorite of the Luxembourg tiaras, I love the swirls. The necklace M-T is wearing has also been worn as a tiara, especially by her late mother in law Josephine Charlotte. I don't think I've ever seen M-T wear it as a tiara, but I could be wrong.

That is one stunning tiara. I just think a bit more of an up-do would have supported it better.

Lovely, but as per, I am on Sir Tom's team - an updo was needed here.

Not loving her wrap though... Fergie's duvet anyone

I'm joining Sir Tom's team as well; I agree that the tiara would have been set off to perfection if MT wore her hair up. Unfortunately, this stunning tiara looks like it's just plopped on her head and it deserves better than that. The necklace looks very geometric and abstract in form. I'm not thrilled with it, although I understand the center stone is a cabochon sapphire. And as far as the stole, it looks like MT ripped a curtain off the wall to ward away the chill in the hallway.

And, James, Sarah's wrap looks like it had air pumped into it!

First of all, can I just chortle at the expression on His Majesty's face - that looks like the classic eye roll of a husband who's overhearing his wife tell the guest what trouble she's been having with her tiara...

Anyhoo, back to business, and she looks lovely - she's so pretty!! She really does have the most cracking tiara colleaction. But I think an updo would make this look less precarious - it looks like it'll slide straight off the minute she tilts her head. And the side parting is giving the illusion that it's skew-whiff.

(@ James B - blimey, Fergie's duvet - that was a cracker. Wonder if she could sell that on ebay!!)

MT can't wear her hair up successfully. Her face is too round. I love this cut she has been wearing. I think it flatters her immensely.

Love the dress and the wrap. Please, no comparison to that Ferguson monstrosity.

Can't see the tiara clearly enough for an assessment, but it appears that it is an appropriate size.

@ James - Fergie channelling her inner Farah Fawcett!
@ Maggie - quite agree, his face is a picture :) Oh Lord, not another of these dull dinners!

I think a less substantial shawl would have worked better here, this one's just swallowing her. I love the tiara although perhaps an updo would have been better....my, Sonja's looking stripey!

  9. Eliza says on :

Oh, the tiara is gorgeous!! Love, love, love! On the other hand, I'm with the "updo needed" category.

The king's expression is priceless. He is thinking his yacht or the golf course are calling and he has to get dressed up and go to this fancy dinner.

MT has been looking grat lately. I think she has eithe gotten stylist or changed one (or took the reins herself) If her hair had been loosely collected in her nape this would have been perfect. Wrap makes the black look very good and black sets off her hair and skin colours.
