Armed Forces Day - Victoria Barracks: HRH The Duchess of Cambridge

Structural beret!  How amazing is this, especially for a military engagement?  Love the pleating, love the bow and feathers, love the jaunty tilt.  I cannot WAIT for Canada.  There had better be some major hatboxes in Kate's luggage!

(P.S. -- you can rate this whole outfit on my companion blog, Cambridge Chic!)

Armed Forces Day - Drumhead Service: HRH The Duchess of Cornwall

Gasp -- could it be?  Is it possible?  Is it a new hat for Camilla -- and one that I like?  Glory be!

Also, on a sidenote:

I know it's totally immature, but the hats that go with dress military uniforms just make me giggle. :)

It's the zippy pink hat again, everybody!  Seriously, if I wore this hat, I wouldn't be able to stop touching the material, LOL.  This is how you do texture on a hat correctly.  (Ahem.  I'm looking at you, PEACH FUZZ.)

Oh, Tessy -- you know this is ridiculous, I can see it on your face!  What happened?  Did it come apart on the car ride over?

Luxembourg National Day 2011: HRH Princess Alexandra of Luxembourg

Love this whirligig of a fascinator on Princess Alexandra's dark hair -- whimsical and silly enough to be interesting, but not so crazy that it's distracting.

But ... is that her hair gathered in the back, or is it -- shudder -- some sort of bow?  Thoughts?

The lavender swoop returns!  We haven't seen it since last June -- but I'm not sure it's grown on me, to be honest.  HM looks nice here, but ... that extra bit of pointless, wrappy embellishment ... ehhh.  I think I'm still in the "swoop or feather" camp! :)

St. Paul's 300th Anniversary: HM The Queen

Well, this one's clearly back in the regular rotation, isn't it?  We just saw it in Ireland -- but Her Maj looks so darned cute here that I'll give her a pass.  Also:

I can see "LOL" written all over Lil's face.  Poor Lord Mayor of London, hahaha!

St. Paul's 300th Anniversary: HRH The Duchess of Gloucester

An old trusty from Birgitte Gloucester at today's anniversary service at St. Paul's -- but sans scrunchie this time! :)  Much better without, IMO.

(P.S. -- yep, this is a service for the 300th anniversary of St. Paul's Cathedral, but I can hear all of you smarties shouting, "but it's way older than that!"  And you're right!  The first St. Paul's building was destroyed in the Great Fire of London in 1666, and the current building, a Christopher Wren design, replaced it in 1711.  So, you know, it's a spring chicken, cathedral-wise!) ;)

Princess Nathalie's Wedding: HSH Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg

Congratulations to Princess Nathalie of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg -- daughter of Princess Benedikte, niece of Queen Margrethe of Denmark and Queen Anne-Marie of Greece, and cousin to half of the princes and princesses in Europe -- on her wedding day!  Nathalie is technically already married -- she and Alexander Johannsmann had a civil wedding in May of last year, a few months before their son, Konstantin, was born.

But today is Nathalie's religious wedding ceremony, and with that comes the sparkles: the Khedive of Egypt Cartier Tiara, to be more exact!  Here's a little history on the rather romantic tiara, which first belonged to Crown Princess Margaret of Sweden.  Today, its owner is Nathalie's aunt, Queen Anne-Marie.  It's one of my favorite tiaras -- so delicate and unique!

All female descendants of Queen Ingrid of Denmark have worn the Khedive on their wedding days: so far, the tally of wearers is Queen Anne-Marie, Queen Margrethe, Princess Benedikte, Princess Alexia of Greece and Denmark, Princess Alexandra of S-W-B (Nathalie's older sister), and now, Princess Nathalie.  Next in line?  Princess Theodora of Greece and Denmark, Countess Ingrid von Pfeil und Klein-Ellguth (Alexandra's daughter), and Princesses Isabella and Josephine of Denmark.

The other heirloom aspect of Nathalie's wedding ensemble is her veil, which was first worn by Crown Princess Margaret at her wedding in 1905 at Windsor Castle.  It's been worn by many of the family brides since, including Crown Princess Mary.

As for the dress: well, she certainly looks happy to be wearing it! ;)
