Royal Ascot 2011, Day One: HRH Princess Beatrice of York

Oh, dear.  I think the world has officially scared the Mad Hattery right out of Our Bea post-wedding.

...but really, even though this is as basic as basic gets, it is cute and flattering on her, isn't it?  And she DID HER HAIR.  Honestly, she looks great!  (Even if the hat blogger in me wishes there were sparklers or stuffed animals worked in as embellishments somehow.  Having to tag an entry "beige" and "royal ascot" is a little bit sad...)

She looks wonderful. Yes, it's simple, yes it's beiege, and yes, they are both cardinal sins in my hattery book, but this works so well. Bea has finally turned into a sophisticated princess of the Princess Alexandra school. Well done.

  2. Eliza says on :

Um, WOW. Somebody's looking cute! Love the hat; it looks amazing with her bright hair. Speaking of her hair, that style is super pretty. Maybe Bea and Kate have been chatting about ways to deal with messy hair?

  3. fanofshinyhats says on :

She looks lovely and elegant. I am torn between bored to tears and pleased as punch.

  4. Jena says on :

I'm sorry but who is this and where did the regular crazy mad hatter Bea go??

I feel like it's my little girl all grown up or something. Looking beautiful, hair done, outfit that is not dated or fuddy duddy and a NORMAL hat.

Just gorgeous. THAT is how it's done.

  5. Tara says on :

Love it. Its simple and the whole outfit looks elegant. Although this would have been the perfect time and place to wear a certain hat...

  6. maggie says on :

OH I am pleased as punch for the girl. It's like someone has sat her down and gone, 'Bea, love - there's an entire blog inspired by your ridiculous headgear. It's time to dial it down a bit.' And she looks lovely! With the big eyes and the big hair, an over the top hat makes her look like a cartoon - this is understated and lets her looks shine.

I expect tomorrow it'll be a neon pink horseshoe to make up for it

This time, she gets the colors right. They are very flattering. See, beige can work if it is on the right gal.

  8. MrFitzroyOBE says on :

What a shocking surprise! Not in a bad way, just in a "I'm glad I'm already sitting down" kind of way! Based on the DailyMail coverage, everyone is a bit shocked....a hat, a plain normal hat.
I love Bea in over the top mode, but she does look quite pretty (and nearly elegant) today!

That said, I believe that they must have SPLIT THIS HAT IN TWO, and all the fun bits are being worn by the woman on the right edge of Princess Eugenie's photo!

  9. PJ25 says on :

Bea can pull of the beige because of her wonderful Ging that she finally put into curls. She looks so sweet in lovely, but I'm hoping for something madder tomorrow!

  10. looseal says on :

Pure elegance from top to bottom. Its all been said very well above. YRH looks perfect.

  11. Patricia says on :

Bea must have enrolled in the scared straight hattery program since obviously intervention has taken place. Not even a smidgen of furbelow on that hat. It's the classic garden party hat and it may be beige, but it looks almost a pale peach color which is so complementary to her hair. OK, Bea, you've proven you can wear normal hats, and you do look wonderful in them...now tomorrow you're allowed to go slightly bonkers and don one of your whimsical toppers.

  12. Jake says on :

Simple, elegant, and it has a brim! Beatrice, j'adore la chapeau. But I do expect a little madness from you at some point this week . . .

  13. BethBG says on :

Bea looks lovely here, very young elegant princess. But I think she's saving the whackadoodle for Ladies Day...

  14. malluu says on :

I love it! She finally looks like a princess. If only she could go back in time and switch this with what she wore to the wedding because this demure princess look should have been worn at the wedding and the mad hatter look is more appropriate at Ascot.

  15. astridnannerl says on :

I scrolled to the very top of the picture and told my bf "Wait for it, wait for it...BAM!..." Crap she worn a normal hat, now I'm embarrassed.

  16. Josephine says on :

She's all grown up. Bea looks wonderful. Perhaps she's found a better stylist than Fergie. LOL

  17. JamesB says on :

Best Bea Ever. I love this, she looks fabulous, like Scarlett O'Hara in her brim and ringlets.

I do hope she's not get to let Ma Hattery down in the future though - c'mon Bea - don;t let us down for Zara's wedding girl!!

  18. Cherubino says on :

She looks great! But who's going to be our mad hatter now that Beatrice has finally started taking our advice???

  19. Ellen says on :

    Unusually elegant!

  20. Cynthia Victoria says on :

She's lovely, finally someone has taken her in hand.

  21. Aunt Bea says on :

Is anyone wondering just how big of an influence newcomer Kate is having on the royal ladies? Curly long hair dressed properly and a charming beige chapeau. I love Beatrice in this soft beige colour. She truly looks elegant and royal.

  22. Ky Person says on :

Beatrice looks so much like the young Queen Victoria. The Hanover genes are strong in her. And I love the hat - just love it. I think it suits her much better than a fascinator.

  23. Annie says on :

    Dear YRH Princess Beatrice,

Wow, Wow, WOW ! ! ! You look stunning, so mature and so freaking put together. I love how you are working the hat opportunities...and saving the maddest hattery for certain occasions of your choosing rather than wearing them all the time. So demure...so royal. LOVE IT!!!

    Sincerely,

    =Annie=
