State Visit from Turkey - State Banquet: HRH The Princess Royal

Princess Anne was front and center at tonight's state banquet, and she didn't scrimp on the bling: this is, of course, the Festoon Diamond Tiara, probably more familiar to most royal watchers as the tiara that Autumn Phillips wore on her wedding day.  We haven't actually seen Anne in this one on the blog yet -- I like how parts of it just barely peek out over her hair!

Another of the Queen Mum's brooches on Anne tonight? I have great respect for the Princess, but the hair color is just too dark for her now. She has an amazing figure and beautiful skin, just soften the hair...she'd be a knockout!

The Princess Royal wore this brooch in her official 60th birthday portrait and it was noted at the time it was a wedding gift to her from the Prince of Wales.

Anyone else think that the Festoon tiara is the big sister of Mary's wedding tiara - it just has a bit more 'oomph' than that poor little tiddler doesn't it!

I love that the base of the tiara is buried in her hair. I hate seeing the velvet-covered band-revealing the magic.

She looks absolutely lovely. She's got the hair height to cover those pesky tiara bases, which, as we all know, were designed back in the day when most all women wore their hair up and piled high in the front.

@James: Now that you mention it her tiara could be a "big sister" to CP Mary's wedding tiara. You have a sharp eye!

Anne's pulled out some nice gems for the festivities; that brooch is a beauty and it's great to see the Festoon tiara being worn again on perfect tiara hair. But she does need to go lighter on the hair color; too harsh for her face.

Anne looks great - as ever, when she nails it she can't be beaten. Soooo royal it hurts - the festoon looks great nestled in her magnificent hair.

I wonder what the Queen's thinking. "How many Presidents of Turkey have we had banquets for now? Must remember to kick Phillip if he makes one of his fez jokes..."

Fabulous. I too hate seeing the velveteen base of a tiara.

Just listening now to a BBC radio interview of the PR - remarkable voice, sharp like glass and an accent that sounds lifted whole from the 1910s, sensible and wry. Started very brisk and chill but warming up as she discusses her career as an equestrian. As Maggie says, so royal! I do wish she'd lash out and borrow more of the family jewels - one can quite see her kitted out like Queen Mary in long ropes of pearls, or in toque and fox furs...

Now, I'm not especially Princess Royal obsessed (I'm not! Really I'm not...), but I just ran across the following photo of her at a gala this week - tiara-less, alas - and I have to say she's looking postively va-va-va-voom in spangled blue (with a low, cutout neckline) and black furs. It's the kind of dress that makes me wonder if she perhaps inherited some of her Aunt Margaret's wardrobe....

    Oh - forgot the link!
